What the role entails

The Municipality of Clarington is seeking to hire a Temporary Health and Safety Coordinator, reporting to the Human Resources Manager. This position is responsible for the administration of the Municipality’s health and safety programs and provides consultation, advice, and guidance to all levels of employees, fostering and maintaining the corporate safety and wellness culture.

Responsibilities

  • Development and delivery of the corporate Health and Safety Program and services, ensuring compliance with prevailing legislation.
  • Monitoring new legislation and best practices related to Health and Safety standards and practices.
  • Planning, researching, developing, organizing, coordinating, and conducting a wide range of Health and Safety training and orientation programs.
  • Supervising and working closely with the Health and Safety Associate.
  • Ensuring Health and Safety policies, programs, and practices are implemented and maintained.
  • Management of Occupational Illness/Injuries, conducting investigations, reporting, and WSIB accommodation.
  • Advising Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Implementing an e-learning platform for training initiatives.
  • Managing WSIB reporting and claims management.
  • Performing regular safety audits and making recommendations.
  • Assessing health risk factors and developing wellness plans.
  • Report preparation.
  • Facilitating Joint Health and Safety Committee requests.
  • Providing ergonomic recommendations.
  • Budgetary responsibility of Health and Safety expenditures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Eligible and willing to complete the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.
  • 3-5 years of directly related experience.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of government regulations pertinent to Health and Safety.
  • Experience in a unionized and multifaceted work environment is required.
  • Proven ability to implement a safety culture.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be physically able to do the job.
  • Flexibility in working hours as required.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.

What we offer you

  • Salary: $97,142 to $118,077.
  • Flexible work arrangements for eligible roles.

Additional information and requirements

Pre-employment testing may include an oral, written and/or practical assessment. A passing score will be considered to be 70% on each test.

The successful candidate must provide, at their own expense, the following:

  • A current satisfactory criminal reference check.
  • A current Driver’s Abstract and proof of a valid Ontario Class “G” Drivers License.
