We are currently accepting applications for our newly created position of Health and Safety Coordinator.
The successful candidate will be an experienced coordinator who works closely with the Director, Health and Safety. This position may be based out of any of our Vancouver Island locations, which includes Victoria, Nanaimo, Courtenay or Campbell River.
What you will be doing:
- Supports the research, creation and implementation of Safety programs;
- Maintains databases and updates Safety platforms on our computer based Safety Software program;
- Main contact and support for WCB and handles all leave management;
- Creates forms and updates safety manuals as needed;
- Supports Safety with employee training letters;
- Internal COR auditor annually and assists with external COR audit;
- Develops safety documentation e.g. safe work practices & procedures, etc.;
- Develops and maintains dashboards and other employee/safety statistics;
- Supports the Safety program delivery by entering certifications and renewal requirements, documenting incident reports, confirming daily/weekly/monthly/yearly required safety forms are received from site, and entering safety data to maintain reporting dashboards;
- Maintains safety files, ensuring all required documentation are received;
- Assists with policy and procedure creation and updates;
- Responds to employee and manager questions about Safety programs and procedures;
- Other tasks as assigned.
What you need to bring:
- Education in occupational health and safety and/or experience working as a safety coordinator/administrator is an asset;
- 2 - 5 years experience as a Coordinator or Administrator;
- Previous experience working in a construction or other safety sensitive environment is an asset;
- Previous experience working with computer based safety software programs we use Salus Safety is an asset;
- Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
- A self-motivated professional with a high level of initiative, a sense of urgency, and the proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
- COR Internal Auditor training or experience is an asset;
- Strong administration skills;
- Previous experience with a Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee is an asset;
- Proven ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion and tact;
- Collaborative and resourceful team player willing to do what it takes to get the job done well and who enjoys a challenge;
- Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to follow through and meet deadlines;
- Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization;
- Very strong technical writing and oral communication skills;
- Experience developing health and safety training strategies and programs an asset;
- Experience developing reporting dashboards and power point presentations.
