About the Head of Talent Acquisition role
We’re seeking an exceptional hands-on leader to drive Float’s talent acquisition function through our next stage of growth. This is an exciting opportunity to build on our strong foundation and evolve it into a high-performing, scalable recruitment engine. As the Head of Talent Acquisition, reporting into the SVP, People & Talent, you will own the entire recruitment process end-to-end—from crafting a strategic vision for talent acquisition and amplifying our employer brand to attracting top-tier talent across all levels and mentoring a team of dedicated recruiters. Your mission will be to ensure Float has the right talent in place to fuel our ambitious growth, setting the highest standards as we continue to disrupt the Canadian fintech space. In this role, you will lead a transformative journey, scaling our team, setting a new benchmark for recruitment excellence in high-growth environments.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
- Leading and mentoring the recruitment function: Act as a mentor and guide to our recruitment team, setting clear priorities and ensuring team alignment with Float’s objectives.
- Developing and executing a bar-raising talent acquisition strategy: Craft an agile, data-driven talent strategy to attract and secure world-class talent, using innovative sourcing channels, state-of-the-art technologies, and high-impact processes to accelerate Float’s growth.
- Owning and optimizing hiring plans: Design and manage a detailed hiring roadmap that translates company goals into achievable recruitment targets, adjusting regularly to align with business needs and resource capacity across daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly intervals.
- Being a trusted strategic partner: Build strong, consultative relationships with leadership, key stakeholders, and hiring managers to foster a consistent, competency-based approach to hiring that reflects Float’s high standards and core values.
- Driving workforce planning and recruitment analytics: Lead the assessment, planning, and execution of the talent acquisition roadmap; use predictive analytics and recruitment metrics to track, report, and optimize hiring outcomes in real-time.
- Building an efficient and scalable inbound and outbound recruiting function: Architect a sustainable recruiting engine that continuously yields high-quality hires and proactively builds Float’s candidate pipeline, leveraging both inbound and outbound strategies.
- Setting new standards for candidate experience: Create and oversee interview and onboarding experiences that are seamless, professional, and highly personalized, setting Float apart as a top employer.
- Advancing Float’s employer brand: Collaborate with Marketing and the People Team to execute high-impact employer brand initiatives that position Float as a top choice for best in class talent.
- Harnessing the power of our ATS and technology stack: Maximize our ATS capabilities, AI and other recruitment tools to streamline workflows, enhance candidate data insights, and drive a highly efficient recruitment process.
- Leveraging market intelligence and data insights: Conduct ongoing talent market research to stay on top of trends, compensation benchmarks, and competitive positioning; adjust strategies to stay ahead in attracting and retaining the best talent.
- Expanding recruitment initiatives and partnerships: Oversee the development and execution of initiatives such as campus recruitment, internship programs, recruiting events, and community partnerships, elevating Float’s industry presence and expanding our talent pipeline.
You’ll be great in this role if:
- You’ve got the experience. You’ve led talent acquisition at North American high-growth, fast-paced startups, ideally scaling teams from 100 to 300+ and building robust recruitment systems that prioritize both quality and speed. With 15+ years in talent acquisition, including 5+ years in a leadership role, you bring a sharp, strategic approach to talent and a track record of hiring for impact in top-tier tech companies. Global hiring experience is a plus.
- You’re obsessed with building world-class talent engines. You don’t just manage recruiting—you build talent systems. You’ve designed and scaled end-to-end recruiting functions that deliver top-tier talent while fostering a broad and diverse pipeline. Your high standards and clear frameworks have transformed teams, setting a bar that drives the business forward.
- You’re highly networked and have a strong understanding of the market. You’re known in the industry for building top talent companies and you have built a strong talent network over the years. You have an ear to the ground on who might be looking for their next opportunity or know someone who knows someone and can get an introduction. You understand the tech space and all its nuances and have strong business acumen and can talk the talk.
- You’re a visionary who thrives on scaling teams. You see the big picture and know how to operationalize it. From designing the talent acquisition strategy to crafting annual hiring plans, you excel at translating growth goals into structured, scalable recruiting plans that support our ambitious trajectory.
- You’re a dedicated mentor and leader. You understand the power of team development and know how to hire, coach, and inspire a high-performing recruiting team. With your mentorship, the team thrives on accountability, high standards, and continuous growth, positioning Float to attract and retain the best.
- You’re a master at stakeholder alignment. You build strong, trust-based partnerships with the leadership team, hiring managers, and cross-functional leaders. Known for your influence and insight, you help align recruiting with broader business goals, keeping talent strategies agile, responsive, and impactful.
- You’re data-obsessed and results-driven. Metrics and performance indicators are at the core of your approach. You’re highly analytical, using data to guide decisions, set targets, and measure outcomes. You leverage insights to identify gaps, iterate processes, and drive accountability across the team, ensuring we meet hiring targets while maintaining Float’s high standards.
- You’re a proactive, resourceful problem solver. In a high-growth startup, change is constant, and agility is essential. You bring a “find a way” mentality to every challenge, innovating solutions to meet hiring demands, streamline processes, and exceed targets—without compromising on quality.
This role won’t be a fit if:
- You haven’t led the talent acquisition function at a North American high-growth startup (scaled from 100-300+).
- You’re not fired up about helping Float build the best business in Canada.
- You’re not energized by scaling talent systems in a fast-paced, high-growth setting.
- You’re not committed to setting high standards, ensuring and taking accountability.
- You struggle to adapt quickly to changing business needs.
- You lack a proactive, problem-solving mindset for startup challenges.
- You’re not a data-driven, metrics-based decision-making leader.
- You are prepared to prioritize quality and fit, over speed every time!
