As the Head of Commercial Excellence/Sales Effectiveness supporting the Canadian Commercial business through Sales Operations, Customer Experience and Technology Operations, you will be trusted with developing and driving successful customer operations business strategies by leading all Canadian customer interface functions and processes, enabling and facilitating customers' ability to do business with Alcon. This individual will not only coordinate with Finance to monitor business performance and liaise on key issues related to financial planning and budgeting, but will also substantially contribute towards overall results/success of the business by assuming a critical liaison function between Sales & Marketing. This role is based in our Canadian Headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario. In this role, you will:

  • Support Senior Leadership team in driving the commercial operations and overall business strategy translated into operations in Canada, and build strong network with North America and Global colleagues.
  • Lead a team consisting of various operational functions while optimizing, training, and managing the productivity of all managers and individual contributor roles to ensure they are all capable and delivering upon the agreed objectives.
  • Monitor and review business performance, ensure management actions are taken to secure adherence to agreed plans, and drive continuous improvement. Ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness, reduce bureaucracy, and optimize resource allocation and profitability. Coordinate with Finance, Legal, HR, IT, Procurement and Compliance functions to monitor overall business performance.
  • Support Business Unit (BU) Heads (Vision Care and Surgical) for cross-functional BU needs and cross-functional special projects with a focus on sales and marketing data and analytics. Ensure cross-functional communication and alignment to coordinate on the myriad of events and projects taking place within Canada. Play a key role in business planning, forecasting, management reports/presentations, and overall strategic direction.
  • Represent the commercial organization at a senior level, and strategically oversee that all systems, including SAP, meet the business needs. Ensure projects drive efficiency and facilitate the growth of the business while being delivered on time and within budget. Provide creative solutions to complex issues where fundamental principles do not clearly apply, or where data appears to be in conflict.
  • Provide overall leadership that delivers effective, innovative service delivery for Alcon’s Canadian customers in the Surgical and Vision Care franchises across multiple technology channels including telephony, electronic data interchange, ecommerce and social media. Collaborate with leaders throughout the organization to delight customers through precise execution of commercial and supply chain strategic initiatives.
  • Manage succession plans for this position as well as all other positions within the department to ensure no interruptions to the business when openings occur and that available talent is prepared to fill the openings.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Education Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree (Bachelor of Commerce or B.Sc)
  • Preferred: Advanced degree e.g., MBA or MSc
  • Minimum: 7 years in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, or similar highly regulated industry (Preferably Ophthalmic/Optical)
  • Minimum: 5 years sales operations experience
  • Minimum: 5 years people leadership of large teams across competencies, demonstrated development and succession planning.
  • Travel Requirement: National & International Travel. US & European for training & conferences (10-15%)
  • Language: Advanced English (verbal & written)
  • Good working knowledge of industry dynamics and trends, relevant product knowledge
  • Ability to champion and lead change
  • Proven experience leading digital marketing/transformation initiatives
  • Ability to build and influence productive partnerships
  • Ability to plan, manage, and execute multiple projects with conflicting deadlines
  • Proficient in coaching and ability to provide feedback to key stakeholders.
  • Computer/System Requirements: IT System/Finance Systems/Salesforce and infrastructure (SAP, Aspire Financial database), SFDC, Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook), SAP, Envision, Tableau, Pitcher, MS ACCESS, VBA for Excel, Cognos PowerPlay and major industry data programs e.g. IMS, Brogan, AC Nielsen
