Founded in 2004, Apathy is Boring is a national, youth-led non-partisan, charitable organization that supports and educates youth to be active and contributing citizens in Canada’s democracy.

The Opportunity

This winter we are resuming the RISE Program and will be hiring a Program Coordinator in each participating city. The Halifax RISE Program Coordinator will report to the RISE Programs Manager, East and oversee 13 youth volunteers to create, implement and evaluate a local community project. They will also oversee the local hub, lead & facilitate weekly meetings, coordinate volunteer schedules, support youth in co-creating, delivering and evaluating their community project and build relationships with local community organizations.

This role will require someone who is an excellent facilitator, can multi-task in a fast-paced environment, has a strong work ethic, is connected to the community and has a background in building partnerships. The person for this position has to be available to work some evenings and weekends. The coordinator will travel inside Canada 2-4 times per year with all expenses covered.

$29-30 per hour based on experience

Responsibilities

Ambassador Support (30%)

1. Work with a group of youth volunteers (Ambassadors and Organizers) between the ages of 18 and 30 years old
2. Recruit Ambassadors and Organizers, assist in training, co-prepare duties and timelines, and track Ambassador hours
3. Support Ambassadors and Organizers, to plan, prepare, manage and implement a community project
4. Create and maintain relationships with community partners
5. Manage and resolve conflict as it arises
6. Support and Mentor Ambassadors in becoming leaders
7. Create and maintain relationships with Ambassadors, including individual check-ins

Coordination & Facilitation (30%)

1. Assist in creating a space that is welcoming and accommodating to Ambassadors and Volunteers
2. Manage files, record systems, office supplies and inventory in line with internal policies and procedures
3. Keep up to date with other tasks and responsibilities outside of hub meetings
4. Coordinate logistics for weekly gatherings including food, in-person meeting location, transportation support, and community partners to support full participation from youth volunteers
5. Design, plan and facilitate weekly meetings to support program curriculum and deliverables
6. Support program and organization evaluation through documentation, reporting, and staff and department meetings

Budget Coordination (20%)

1. Manage budget for community project
2. Manage budget for office supplies, program materials, food orders, as well as Ambassador and Organizer supplies
3. Track and file purchase receipts
4. Work closely with the Finance team to ensure budget deadlines and procedures are met and implemented

Communications Coordination (20%)

1. Manage social media accounts (FB, IG)
2. Work closely with the Communications team to ensure communications deadlines and procedures are met and implemented
3. Create engaging content and grow social media following
4. Create and maintain community partnerships

Requirements

1. 1-2 years experience coordinating or facilitating youth or community programs.
2. Experience in leadership roles or capacities
3. Experience with anti-oppressive practices and creating safer and braver spaces
4. Knowledge of local youth issues and aware of community and city’s needs and resources
5. Excellent written and oral skills in English
6. Excellent knowledge of computer and spreadsheet/word processing software including G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite

Assets

1. Post-secondary education in Humanities or Social Sciences, or training and work experience in relevant fields is an asset
2. Experience developing and facilitating workshops an asset
3. Excellent communication skills in French an asset
