Women’s Counsellor
Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services is an organization in Southern Ontario that provides emergency shelter, counselling, advocacy and support for women and their children who have been affected by domestic violence.
We are looking for a qualified individual to join our team as a Women’s Counsellor.
This full-time position (35 hours per week) has a starting salary of $29.29 per hour and comes with three weeks (accrued) vacation per year to start and full health benefits after three months.
The right candidate will provide individual and group counselling, advocacy and support services to women survivors of assault/abuse in their relationships.
Responsibilities :
- Assess and determine goals for counselling and track the progress of client goals
- Provide counselling sessions, advocacy and support as determined by the client, counsellor and Community Services Manager.
- Develop, revise and deliver groups for clients accessing services
- To network and co-operate with referral services and other social service agencies within the community
- To participate in regular supervision and program specific meetings
- To maintain documentation and statistical records as required
- Provide support as necessary to the 24-hour Residential Service, including but not limited to answering phones and supporting walk-in clients
- Develop and revise resources for clients when needed
- Review and understand all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to Staff Code of Conduct and Confidentiality
- Become familiar with and effectively document all client information in the WISH database
- To assume all other duties as deemed necessary by the Executive Director
Qualifications:
- Post Secondary education in a professional counselling discipline and direct experience in counselling abused women
- Ability to effectively handle crisis situations both in person and by telephone
- Evidence of current knowledge base relevant to assessment and counselling of women survivors of abuse in their relationships
- Demonstrated skills in providing individual and group counselling
- Ability to perform with a women-centered organization which bases its services on a feminist analysis of women abuse
- Ability to function as part of an effective team both within the front-line staff group and the organizational framework
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Valid First Aid & CPR certificate and Vulnerable Sector Search
