What you'll do:

  1. Analyze and interpret workplace injury data and work with facility management to identify areas of unacceptable risk and incorporate corrective measures into site-specific action plans.
  2. Actively promote health and safety critical priorities and collaborate with the client group to identify ways to build and/or develop balanced safety cultures.
  3. Conduct internal health and safety assessments and review facility corrective action plans to ensure that identified risks are eliminated and/or controlled.
  4. Support facility management in implementing and maintaining Corporate compliance initiatives.
  5. Continuously work with front-line leaders to improve their competency relating to occupational health and safety including company policies, standards, best practices and the importance of communication.
  6. Coach and train front-line leaders on how to identify unsafe behaviors, and how to recognize, assess and control hazards.
  7. Coach, educate and train the Joint Health and Safety Committees as the need arises, and in accordance with Company and legislated standards.
  8. Provide powered lift truck train-the-trainer sessions to certify peer trainers in the retail stores/distribution center's.
  9. Support facility management with provincial regulatory activities and initiatives to ensure favourable outcomes.
  10. Provide advice, guidance and coaching on matters related to all areas of health and safety.
  11. Commitment to promoting a workplace of inclusiveness and belonging.

What you bring:

  1. 5 to 7 years progressive experience with demonstrated knowledge in the area of occupational health and safety management practices (i.e. post-secondary degree or field experience, or combination of both).
  2. Certified Registered Safety Profession (CRSP), Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or post graduate OH&S university/college degree preferred.
  3. Education and experience in ergonomics is an asset.
  4. Sound knowledge of Federal and Provincial Occupational Health & Safety and Workers’ Compensation Acts and Regulations.
  5. Well organized and able to handle multiple complex and competing priorities.
  6. Self-motivated and results orientated.
  7. Excellent relationship management skills.
  8. Valid provincial driver’s license that meets the requirements of the Company’s Business Tool Car Program.
  9. Ability to travel with overnight stays during the work week.
  10. Ability to provide 24/7 service to the business for the purposes of handling critical injury situations and/or running regulatory stop work situations that result in an operational disruption to the business.
  11. Experience in retail environments is an asset.
