YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:
Reporting to the Ground Control Coordinator, you will be part of the Engineering Department and will collaborate with other departments of the mine. You will perform good engineering practices and be responsible for observing and establishing solutions to ensure workable ground stability. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Create primary ground support standards and specific layouts for secondary support of underground excavations;
- Perform Open pit and Underground rock field inspections, report and follow up on the corrective measures;
- Ensure regular update of the Ground control program and proper follow-up on the different KPI;
- Provide training to the different group of interest to guarantee compliance;
- Define instrumentation and monitoring requirements for all underground excavations and open pit;
- Design and oversee technical studies regarding aspects of rock mechanics, including numerical modelling and stability analysis for underground openings and open pit. Take part in the transfer of this know-how to the Meliadine’s Engineering team;
- Collaborate on various Geotechnical and Hydrogeological projects to better understand rock mass behavior and impact of underground water;
- Collaborate with Meliadine’s Engineering team regarding backfilling strategy;
- Liaise with AEM specialists from technical services department, projects development groups and other AEM mine sites.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering/Geology or closely related discipline;
- 4+ years experience in mining, combined with 1+ years in ground control / rock mechanics;
- Proven track record in operational mining projects is essential;
- Member of a Canadian Engineering society and eligible to NAPEG membership;
- Experience working in a multicultural environment;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
- Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, AutoCAD and mine design/planning software. Knowledge of the Deswik software is an asset;
- Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written).
Your Work Schedule
- Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d’Or, Quebec.
