Westridge Quarries, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., has several career opportunities in Spallumcheen, BC and surrounding areas. Westridge Quarries has long established itself as a leader in the Okanagan for contract crushing services and construction aggregate supply, with a goal of continuous growth and expansion in the local market.
We are currently seeking a skilled and dependable individual to join our team as a Gravel Truck Driver. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating a gravel truck to transport construction materials to and from various job sites in Spallumcheen and the surrounding area. Your exceptional driving skills, attention to safety, and teamwork will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our construction projects.
As part of our dedicated focus on the health and safety of all employees, a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing and a criminal record check, may be required.
What You’ll Accomplish
- Safely operate a gravel truck to transport construction materials such as gravel, sand, and other aggregates to and from job sites.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure its safe and efficient operation.
- Load and unload materials, ensuring proper weight distribution, secure fastening, and adherence to established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including time logs, mileage, and fuel consumption.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and other team members to ensure timely and efficient delivery of materials.
- Perform basic truck maintenance such as checking oil levels, tire pressure, and regular cleaning of the vehicle.
- Demonstrate flexibility by taking on additional duties, including operating loader equipment, as required by operational demands.
- Exhibit strong organizational and time management skills to meet project deadlines while maintaining a focus on safety and compliance with traffic laws and company policies.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
What We’re Looking ForEducation: High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Work Experience: Proven experience as a gravel truck driver, preferably in construction or a similar environment
Required Training/Certifications: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record
Required Technical Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude; familiarity with pre-trip inspections and vehicle maintenance
Travel Requirements: Travel within Spallumcheen and surrounding areas
Additional Requirements:- Solid understanding of traffic rules, regulations, and safe driving practices
- Ability to operate a gravel truck safely and efficiently
- Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other personnel
- Physical stamina to withstand long hours of driving and loading/unloading materials
- Able to lift 55 lbs
- Comfortable and capable of working at heights
- Able to work unsupervised and well with others in a fast-paced, high-production environment
- Demonstrates commitment to safety for oneself and others
- Strong problem-solving, decision making, and multi-tasking skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy (Excel and Word programs considered an asset)
- Willing to work overtime and shifts as needed, including Saturdays
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
