Job description

On behalf of WCB Nova Scotia, Venor is recruiting for a Graphic Designer.

By working to keep Nova Scotians safe, healthy, and on the job, and supporting them when their lives are impacted by workplace injury, WCB Nova Scotia is contributing to a safer, stronger province. We provide workplace injury insurance to approximately 19,500 employers and 335,000 workers across the province. Our vision is a Nova Scotia safe and secure from workplace injury.

WCB Nova Scotia is consistently recognized as a Top Employer in Atlantic Canada and Nova Scotia, and has also been recognized nationally as a Top 100 Employer and as one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures. A supportive work environment, a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, and flexible/hybrid work are just some of the benefits.

It’s an exciting time to work for the WCB as the organization embarks on a transformational path, guided by a new strategic plan founded in a simple vision – to protect the Nova Scotia workforce.

About the role

As WCB Nova Scotia’s graphic designer, you will have a front row seat as you design, literally, a new path forward. Day to day, you will support a busy communications and marketing team with evolving needs, as our work evolves from a focus on mass cultural change to targeted change in a small number of workplaces. You’ll also support our Executive team directly, designing strategic materials and Board and Committee packages. Your work will be broad in focus – from creative marketing-first outreach materials to presentation templates, to detailed infographics and data. The types of design work you do will vary based on the project and the audience, but the work will include a mix of social, web, print, and targeted business and marketing materials. Through it all, you will help bring visual design consistency aligned with the WCB brand. WCB has a flexible/hybrid work model, and this role will have the opportunity to work from home and the office.

Simply put, you know how to tell a story visually. Join us, and bring that skillset to a growing, changing, dynamic workplace, with an inspiring mission to protect the Nova Scotia workforce.

About you

You are a talented designer with a keen eye for detail. Your experience leans more to websites, graphics, presentations, and digital documents than it does to advertising art direction. You are quick, detail-oriented, and you understand the dynamics of a multi-stakeholder environment.

What we’re looking for

  • A college diploma in Graphic Design and/or Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of graphic design experience, gained in a corporate or public sector setting. Relevant experience should include tasks such as: visual direction, design and quality control of design projects, experience managing print production processes and digital media requirements; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or other relevant design software; and an understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout techniques.
  • Experience with basic video production and editing would be considered an asset, as would familiarity with public sector regulations and standards for accessibility in communications.

Candidates will be required to provide a selection of their professional work portfolio, showcasing a variety of design projects and demonstrating a keen eye for detail, creativity, and visual storytelling.

WCB offers a competitive compensation package including a salary range of $63,239 – $79,037. Some of the benefits include a flexible/hybrid work model, and benefits such as 3 weeks vacation to start, a health spending account, and a defined benefit pension plan, to name a few. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the completion of all applicable background checks, including a criminal record check and confirmation of credentials, the results of which must be satisfactory to the WCB.

Venor and WCB embrace a culture of belonging in the workplace. No matter who you are, where you’re from, how you think, what you believe in, or who you love, we welcome your application. We all come from different backgrounds and different walks of life, bringing in unique perspectives and experiences. We encourage applications from 2SLGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), women, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities. WCB champions safety and promotes a diverse and respectful workplace. They are a scent and allergy-reduced environment.
