Post-Secondary Accessibility Services (PSAS) is a dynamic and committed team that is leading and coordinating the Department of Advanced Education’s work to become an accessible province by 2030. We work together with Nova Scotians with disabilities, community and disability organizations, businesses, municipalities, post-secondary institutions, and other partners to support the cultural shift needed to implement the Accessibility Act and address disability-related issues across the post secondary sector.
As a small but impactful team, PSAS has built strong relationships with post-secondary institutions, with government of all levels and with public sector and community partners to support efforts to improve access to post-secondary education for eligible people with disabilities. Our primary responsibility is the provision of Services and Equipment grants to post-secondary students with disabilities to help remove barriers to successful completion of their educational goals. We are also proud to fund post secondary and community partner programs to help people with disabilities gain access and experience in the labor market.
The Grant Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of services and equipment grants for students with disabilities who are attending post-secondary institutions. This position provides expertise to clients throughout the entire post-secondary cycle: from transition from high school or the community to post-secondary; participation in college and university programs; summer employment, co-ops, and internships, and graduation.
The Grant Coordinator positions report to the PSAS Program Operations Manager.
To be successful in this role, you have a related post-secondary degree plus one year of related experience. An acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
With a strong client focus, you’ll possess excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills using tact and ensuring confidentiality to establish effective relationships with a variety of internal and external clients, including other levels of government and community agencies.
You are required to exercise good judgment and initiative, acting independently on inquiries, and making sure decisions align with program policies and standards. You can provide technical guidance when required on acquiring, organizing, protecting, and processing data to fulfill business objectives; analyzing data trends for use in reports to help guide decision making. You can manage multiple priorities during busier times, with demonstrated skills in organization and prioritization.
Proven proficiency in caseload management systems, word processing, spreadsheet management, and e-mail software.
We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
