Job Summary:
The Governance Project Lead (GPL) is responsible for overseeing and executing a variety of governance-related projects, including elections, ratifications and referendums, for Indigenous communities across Canada. The GPL works closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure each project is managed efficiently and in compliance with the specific governance codes and guidelines of each First Nation. This role requires exceptional project management skills, strong problem-solving skills and applied critical thinking with an ability to utilize technology and AI tools to streamline process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Governance Project and Voting Event Management:
- Oversee and manage a variety of governance-related projects, including electoral events, referendums, and ratifications.
- Analyze complex governance codes and frameworks, using technology and AI tools to develop project plans.
- Provide voter support for use of the digital voting platform and in all areas of the electoral/voting process.
- Required to hold voting events in person which at times may require overnight travel (including air) to and from the event across Canada.
- Problem Solving and Solutions Development:
- Apply critical thinking and problem solving to resolve challenges that arise during governance projects.
- Use AI tools for data analysis, automation, and risk management to enhance efficiency.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, government agencies, and legal counsel.
- Clearly communicate governance concepts, project goals, progress, and outcomes effectively to all stakeholders.
- Data and Documentation Management:
- Oversee the collection, management, and analysis of governance data to ensure accuracy, transparency, and integrity.
- Generate and review governance documents, including event notices, reports, and final results.
- Risk Management and Compliance:
- Monitor governance processes to identify risks and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Take proactive steps to address irregularities and mitigate risks.
- Other Duties as Required:
- Support other governance-related activities and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, information systems, or a related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in project management, governance, or related fields.
- Passion for social impact and experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is a strong asset.
- Strong understanding of governance structures, including elections, referendums, and ratifications, is an asset but not mandatory.
- Indigenous Services Canada Electoral Certification an asset.
- Proficiency in using technology tools such as AI software, data analysis tools, and project management platforms.
- Proven ability to think critically and solve complex problems with creative solutions.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to work well and collaborate in team environments as well as independently.
