As the Global Statutory Audit Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the global statutory audit process for our organization. You will work closely with local finance teams, external auditors (mainly Grant Thornton), outsource providers and software providers (mainly Thomson Reuters) to ensure compliance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in our statutory audit procedures worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
Global Statutory Audit Management:
- Oversee the end-to-end global statutory audit process across all jurisdictions
- Develop and implement standardized audit procedures and best practices
- Ensure timely completion of statutory audits and filing of financial statements
- Monitor changes in global statutory audit requirements and ensure compliance
Software and Technology Management:
- Lead the utilization of Thomson Reuters OneSource for financial statement preparation
- Ensure optimal use of the software to streamline the audit process
- Collaborate with the IT team to implement and maintain audit-related technologies such as Alteryx, Power BI and Tableau
External Auditor Relationship Management:
- Serve as the primary liaison with Grant Thornton, our global statutory auditor
- Coordinate audit activities, timelines, and deliverables with Grant Thornton
- Negotiate audit fees and scope of work at the global level to optimize cost-effectiveness
Transition to Centre of Excellence:
- Lead the transition of statutory audit work from local finance teams to the Centre of Excellence in Bangalore
- Develop transition plans, timelines, and KPIs to ensure smooth knowledge transfer
- Collaborate with local finance teams and the CoE to establish effective workflows
Process Improvement and Efficiency:
- Identify opportunities for centralized audit approaches to improve efficiency
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce overall audit fees
- Continuously assess and improve audit processes to enhance quality and timeliness
Team Leadership and Development:
- Build and lead a high-performing global statutory audit team based in Bangalore
- Provide mentorship, training, and development opportunities for team members
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
Stakeholder Management:
- Regularly report to senior management on audit status, issues, and improvements
- Collaborate with various departments including Finance, Legal, HR and Tax to ensure alignment of audit processes with broader organizational goals
Cost Optimization with Sourcing Team:
- Work closely with the Sourcing team to negotiate and secure optimal license fees for Thomson Reuters OneSource
- Collaborate with Sourcing to review and optimize audit fees with Grant Thornton
- Develop strategies to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality and compliance
Vendor Management and Insourcing:
- Partner with the Sourcing team to evaluate current outsourced vendors engaged in statutory audit account preparation
- Identify opportunities to transition work from outsourced vendors to in-house teams or the Centre of Excellence
- Develop and implement plans to insource selected activities, with the goal of reducing costs associated with external vendors
- Ensure smooth transition of work from vendors to internal teams while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
Qualifications:
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in statutory audit, preferably in a global organization
- Strong knowledge of international accounting standards (especially IFRS) and statutory reporting requirements
- Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource or similar financial reporting software is an advantage
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
- Experience in process improvement and change management
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus
