GIS Analyst - Kelowna

Mark Anthony Group
Oliver
CAD 75,000 - 85,000
Job description

Winemaking in some major regions of the world can be an ‘industrial’ undertaking, but for us, winemaking is an ‘artform’. Each vintage is the result of a creative process, backed by science and the result of hundreds of years of learning, guided by the hands of highly skilled and passionate experts who need to anticipate and adapt to the specific differences of each and every vintage. We are artisans, crafting wines in one of the smallest wine regions in the world, working to define the Okanagan and put our region on the world stage.

We are leading Canada in organic and sustainable practices, and the Okanagan may well have the largest percentage of certified organic vineyards of any wine producing region in the world. We have soils that are more alive, vines that are healthier and stronger, and grapes that have increased flavors and varietal character, and as a result, wines that stand out even more.

The GIS Analyst will be lead on GIS and vineyard technology, responsible for maintaining and enhancing the GIS infrastructure and providing geospatial and information technologies support to the Sebastian Farms team. Your expertise will support the delivery of the land master plan and drive data-informed decision-making to optimize vineyard management and crop productivity.

Accountabilities & Impact:

  • Develop, manage, and maintain geospatial databases and mapping systems using tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS. Conduct detailed spatial analyses to inform vineyard planning and management strategies.
  • Utilize remote sensing data (e.g., satellite imagery, LiDAR, drone imagery) to monitor vineyard health, design vineyard developments, and assess crop conditions.
  • Lead GIS projects from conception through execution, providing expert guidance and training to team members on GIS technologies and best practices.
  • Partner with viticulture, agronomy, and operations teams to translate complex geospatial data into actionable insights.
  • Stay updated on the latest GIS and precision agriculture technologies, proposing innovative solutions to improve vineyard performance.

Skills & Experiences Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in GIS analysis, with proven experience working in agricultural, forestry, or mining environments; experience in viticulture is desirable.
  • Proficiency with GIS and remote sensing software (ArcGIS, QGIS) combined with strong programming skills (Python, R) for spatial data processing and analysis.
  • Expertise in data visualization and dashboard creation.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with a diverse team. Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and timelines.
  • Comfortability with significant driving and fieldwork.

What We Offer:

  • The typical hiring range for this position is from $75,000 to $85,000 CAD annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
  • Annual bonus program.
  • Monthly Employee Wine Allowance.
  • Retirement plan matching.
  • Deferred profit-sharing plan.
  • Paid time off.
  • Extended health and dental benefits.
  • Generous employee discounts on wine, restaurants, tours, and experiences.
  • Extensive catalog of development course offerings.
  • Mentorship programs and leadership trainings.
