Job description

OBJECTIVE:

The primary duties will involve providing day-to-day on and off field leadership for the U18 Girls Elite Academy team.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The overall accountability for the position is to the Academy Technical Director.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leadership & Culture
    • Champion Safe Sport practices and work closely with Academy leadership to foster a positive and enriching culture throughout the Academy.
    • Drive the culture of the Academy and protect the integrity of Academy’s core values and of the club’s cornerstones.
    • Promote a positive and professional environment for player development.
    • Collaborate with technical and support staff from across all departments to ensure alignment with the club’s overarching player development philosophy and culture.
  • Academy Program
    • Planning & preparation
      • Work with the Academy Technical Director to develop and implement a game model that is age/stage appropriate and falls within expected club philosophical parameters.
      • Lead the design, and implementation of an annual training plan (ATP), working closely with the performance, medical and operations teams.
      • Lead the design, and execution of all team/individual training sessions.
      • Lead all technical aspects of match-day preparation.
      • Work with the Academy Technical Director and technical/performance team to design, monitor and deliver on-field components of player IDPs.
      • Work closely with the performance coach and team therapist to plan for the appropriate daily loading for the team and individual players.
    • Team Travel
      • Travel with the team to all scheduled competitions.
      • Fulfill all responsibilities as outlined in the Academy Team Travel Handbook.
      • Co-ordinate with medical, performance, equipment, and administrative team staff to ensure that all team needs are accounted for.
    • On-field training and game delivery
      • Lead all training sessions, games, and competitions.
      • Lead all aspects of on-field activities (IDP, individual, unit, team…).
    • Player Evaluations & Meetings
      • Lead the planning and delivery of individual, unit and team meetings.
      • Lead the preparation of written evaluations for each player during scheduled evaluation periods.
      • Lead the delivery of all player evaluation meetings.
  • Performance Analysis
    • Work with the academy analyst to analyze team and individual performance daily, utilizing the club’s tools and working in alignment with the club’s overall performance strategy objectives.
    • Work within the club’s established video, statistical and analytical protocols and processes.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
    • Work within the club’s established operational and administrative protocols and processes.
    • Perform all general administrative responsibilities related to effectively leading a team.
    • Work effectively within club and Academy business tools and communication platforms.
    • Work with the operations team to develop team schedules, and communicate with players and families.
    • Provide regular and annual reporting as required.
  • Talent Identification
    • Support the overarching club Academy Talent ID program and strategic plan by assisting with the scouting and recruitment of players as related to your team and the general academy player pool at club Talent ID Camps and Evaluation Camps, as well as local competitions and events, and within the club’s Homegrown Territory.
    • Travel to the clubs Academy Centres for official visits as a representative of the Academy technical staff to evaluate players and deliver on field and off field sessions.
    • Work effectively within club and Academy business tools and communication platforms to file scouting reports as required.
  • Additional Club Commitments
    • Attend weekly staff meetings as scheduled by members of the club and Academy leadership teams.
    • Attend special meetings for program related issues as required and scheduled.
    • Attend public appearances required by the club including, but not limited to:
      • Promotional and Sponsorship engagements.
      • Community events.
      • Appearances at Summer Camps and special soccer development events.
      • Whitecaps FC hosted events.
    • Represent the Club in the soccer community, with emphasis on building rapport with community clubs.
