Geologist, Mine Exploration (12 Months Contract)

The Mine Exploration Geologist will provide reliable, consistent and timely information pertaining to geological tasks. Collect, develop, analyze and model geological information for resource update. Report and communicate progress and participate in various mine projects and business improvement initiatives.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties:

Area 1:

  1. Provide research and prepare geological data to assist in determining the feasibility of mining.
  2. Provide information on infill/definition mine exploration drill programs.
  3. Describe drill core for lithologies, structures, alteration.
  4. Prepare geological interpretation for modeling.
  5. Identify areas of interest for potential targets.
  6. Provide sampling training and guidance to geo-technicians and operations personnel.

Area 2:

  1. Provide accurate description of core by way of logging, sampling, compilation and interpretation of results.
  2. Provide information on accurate logging of drill core and sample cuttings.
  3. Provide information on ore/waste boundaries.
  4. Maintain databases and results data for official log sign off.
  5. Continually improve existing processes in both drilling and logging.
  6. Provide feedback to clients and participate in weekly meetings.

Area 3:

  1. Assist with and provide information on geological delineation and/or exploration.
  2. Plan and provide guidance for diamond drill programs, logging of drill core and boreholes.
  3. Evaluate drill set-ups in advance and develop the diamond drill and/or reverse circulation drill programs.
  4. Provide guidance to drill contractors on a short-term basis and maintain records such that invoices can be validated.

Area 4:

  1. Work collaboratively with others to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities.
  2. Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
  3. Propose new methods to meet challenges of mine geology.
  4. Propose and improve the ore body knowledge.
  5. Keep abreast of trends in mine geology and impart to Côté Gold.
  6. Provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.
  7. Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skill.
  8. Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve drilling processes, technologies and methodologies used for the mine exploration.

Maintain a cooperative interest in the health and safety of yourself, your fellow workers and local communities. Wear PPEs at all times if in production environments. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Ensure that work areas are in compliance with all of IAMGOLD’s Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the applicable jurisdiction. Intervene as necessary, to ensure the safety of others in the workplace. Provide safety leadership by always setting a good example.

Qualifications & Skill Requirements

Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  1. Post-secondary degree in geology or related field is required.
  2. Registration (or eligibility to register) as a Geologist or an engineer in Ontario (PGO / PEng).

Work Experience – Nature & Length

  1. A minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
  2. Previous experience in exploration or open pit mine is considered an asset.

Additional Qualifications – Competency Requirements

  1. Background in geologic models of ore systems and exploration techniques.
  2. Valid G Class driver’s license. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  3. Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented.
  4. Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.
  5. Ability to work with others in a team environment. Ability to organize and prioritize job duties.
  6. Pleasant and courteous in interpersonal interactions.

Leadership Requirements

  1. Exercise personal leadership and ability to demonstrate values consistent with Côté Gold.
