Position Overview

The General Manager (GM) for the Bulk Mulch and Soil line of business will be responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of operations throughout the New England area. This role includes managing daily production teams, supervising production managers, overseeing procurement and inventory, and optimizing pricing and costing schedules. The GM will be instrumental in driving operational excellence, ensuring profitability, and cultivating a high-performing team. This position reports directly to the Area Business Manager.

Position based in New England with travel required to various production sites.

What you’ll do:

Leadership & Management:

  • Directly manage and support production teams across multiple sites in New England.
  • Supervise production managers, ensuring they meet performance goals and adhere to operational standards.
  • Foster a positive work environment by hiring, mentoring, and retaining top talent (“A players”).

Production Oversight:

  • Oversee daily production operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety compliance.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize output and reduce costs.
  • Ensure all production schedules align with customer demand and business objectives.
  • Manage and coordinate the maintenance, repair and replacement of production equipment.

Procurement & Inventory Management:

  • Manage the procurement of bulk materials, ensuring cost-effective and timely supply.
  • Oversee the inventory process to maintain optimal stock levels and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and logistics teams to streamline the supply chain.

Financial Management:

  • Assist with developing and managing pricing and costing schedules to maximize profitability.
  • Analyze financial reports and KPIs to identify areas for improvement and track performance.
  • Work with the executive team to create budgets and forecasts.

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive growth and expand market share.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape.
  • Evaluate and pursue new opportunities to enhance the bulk mulch and soil business line.

Skills We Are Seeking

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within production, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of bulk materials, supply chain management, and inventory processes.
  • Financial acumen, with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage teams and build relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-site operational environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.
  • 5-7 years of managerial experience including leadership, issue management, motivation and team building preferred.
  • Understanding of sales and operations planning process, demand forecasting and integration of demand plans and supply plans.
  • Ready and willing to learn and adopt, and encourage others to learn and adopt, new technologies and ways of working.
  • High School or equivalent required.
  • Higher education degree preferred.
