Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (“CAO”), the General Manager of Corporate Services (“GMCS”) is a key leadership role at the Town of Canmore (“Town”), critical to the success of our organization. The incumbent will provide day-to-day leadership, support, and guidance to fundamental corporate programs and services in the following municipal departments: Human Resources, Finance, Communications, Information Technology, and the Municipal Clerk’s Office. The GMCS will guide the corporate service teams through the formation of strategic partnerships with council and community, direct the creation of strategic plans, and support the development of technical and influential leaders throughout the organization.
The General Manager of Corporate Services is a culture champion who plays a central role in keeping our organization and its activities aligned with core values, vision, and goals. This is the perfect role for an active leader with a collaborative work style, who can translate visionary and strategic thinking into concrete results through the mobilization of talented people and diverse resources. It is of primary importance that the General Manager of Corporate Services maintains solid working relationships and a smooth flow of work between departments and ensures that the division meets or exceeds the objectives set by the CAO and Town Council. This individual will not only be needed to lead but will also need to perform some technical work to support their team. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a municipal government-related field such as Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Leadership – required
- Advanced professional leadership development education, training, or certification – required
- Project Management Professional (PMP) – asset
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License – required
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Senior Leadership role – required
- Minimum 6 years of proven project management and budgeting experience and expertise – required
- Experience working in Human Resources, Finance, Communications, Information Technology, public administration- asset
- Labour relations experience – asset
- Proven ability to positively lead, motivate and mentor staff – required
- Experience leading in an organization that is run by a board of directors, or body of elected officials – required
- Experience working with partner organizations and external stakeholders – required
- Extensive experience with change management – required
- Demonstrated success managing and resolving conflict – required
- Demonstrated progressive competence in strategic planning, business plans, and budgeting – required
- Experience presenting information, reports, and professional advice to councils, boards, or senior management for decision making – required
- Experience working with Alberta Municipal Government Act (MGA) and other related legislation – asset
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft office programs, with the ability to independently create and edit a variety of documents and spreadsheets – required
Salary & Benefits
