Job Brief

General Manager - Canada

Amicus Therapeutics is a global, patient-dedicated biotechnology company focused on discovering, developing, and delivering high-quality medicines for people living with rare metabolic diseases.

Position Summary

This role will:

  • be the responsible person for the delivery of all country-related business matters in line with all relevant laws, codes, and SOPs.
  • work as a cross-functional leader for all affiliate-based team members and will be a role model for Amicus behaviours in all aspects and responsibilities of their position.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create and effectively execute the Affiliate business strategy delivering on the Corporation’s strategic aims whilst adhering to international, local, and internal laws, codes, and SOPs.
  • Be a champion for excellence in good Governance across all Legal, Compliance, Safety, and Quality requirements associated with the Pharma/Biotech industry.
  • Maximise the achievement of country targets for profitable growth, profit, and loss contribution.
  • Increase the business performance in the country market by:
    • developing and executing effective cross-functional business plans.
    • representing Amicus effectively in all appropriate external engagements including, but not exclusive to:
      • HCPs
      • Government Departments
      • Payors
      • Patient Access Groups
      • Industry Association Groups and Networks
      • Developing and executing a Country plan in line with Global Strategy.
  • Provide strong leadership, direction, and development in line with Amicus behaviours to ensure employees are engaged, able to excel in their performance, and ultimately fulfil their potential.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain talent to ensure the achievement of company targets.
  • Work effectively and in partnership with other international functions (e.g., Marketing, Finance, HR, Legal, Compliance, etc.).
  • Compliance with all company and local regulations, alignment with local Code of Conduct, including adverse events, product complaints, and pregnancy reports according to company procedures.
  • Manage the legal entity of Amicus Therapeutics in Canada in line with the governance structure.
  • Achieving Goals:
    • Create a clear focus on activities that drive patient access working in close cooperation with key medical centres.
    • Support the creation of marketing and business strategies and tactics in order to strengthen sales outcomes.
    • Be responsible for the implementation of agreed Global/International strategies and tactics.
  • Leveraging and coordinating resources:
    • Responsible for leading the mobilization of appropriate resources in support of customer needs.
    • Collaborate proactively and effectively with teams in other countries and cross-functional partners to successfully advance programs and initiatives in order to improve customer service and patient outcomes.
    • Ensure that there is no duplication of effort by proactively sharing best practices and leveraging programs from other locations.
    • Responsible for utilization of all company systems throughout the entire affiliate structure.
  • Supporting successful patient access:
    • Closely monitor progress of access for patients starting treatment.
    • Proactively inform healthcare providers and other stakeholders regarding access and reimbursement programmes.
  • Affiliate Leadership Team:
    • Chair the affiliate leadership team ensuring that all business is carried out in compliance with Amicus Therapeutics governance framework and meets the requirements for.
    • Regulatory, Clinical Operations, Medical and PV: Working with regulatory, pharmacovigilance, and medical affairs, ensure marketing authorization requirements are met around safety and pharmacovigilance for commercial.
    • Quality: Working with the Head of Quality, International and the named Responsible Person in Quality, ensure compliance with GMP and GDP regulations.
    • Legal and Compliance: Working with Legal International to manage requirements for UK and Ireland affiliate business, oversight of contracting with third partners and service providers. Ensure legal and ethical compliance via company policies and procedures.
    • Supply Chain: Working with global supply and CMC to ensure a reliable, continuous supply of product from local manufacturing, wholesalers, and warehousing UK and Ireland customers. Report market shortages to the relevant regulatory authorities.
    • Finance: Working closely with the finance team to ensure all compliance and reporting requirements are met.
    • Medical: Dual reporting line responsibility for the country Medical Director and supporting the oversight of the affiliate Medical Team.

Requirements


Educational/Professional Work Experience Requirements/Experience and Skills

  • Experience and a track record of success in Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology sales positions in the country of responsibility.
  • Solid experience in working with rare diseases or specialty care products and demonstrates a good understanding of the science behind the product.
  • Successful experience in pharmaceutical sales and/or marketing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the local rules and regulations of the pharma market in the country of responsibility.
  • Hands-on mentality, autonomous working style, self-starter.
  • Understands the requirements, and demonstrates the capability, of working in a fast-moving environment where the individual’s input counts.
  • A passion for helping patients with rare diseases.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with proven experience of leading a team.
  • Solid judgment and business acumen and understanding of multi-national business operations.
  • Autonomy, self-motivation, and efficiency, with an appropriate sense of urgency in a fast-paced and dynamic environment whilst working at times with ambiguity.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written skills with the ability to explain complex, challenging issues in a clear manner to all levels of the organization, especially senior management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and flexibility, and the ability to engage and influence effectively with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding about the importance and value of effective cross-functional and cross-geography teamwork.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Passion for rare disease and patient-focused.
  • Fluency in English and local language for the country of responsibility is essential.

Travel:

  • Regular International, regional, and domestic travel will be required.
