Who We Are

Nee Tahi Buhn First Nation is located at Francois Lake, British Columbia, with 4 reserves all located within 10 km of the south shore of Francois Lake. Nee Tahi Buhn is home to an ancient culture, a rugged history and a vibrant present. Our community is made up of approximately 140 members and we are committed to preserving and promoting our traditional language, culture and way of life.

At Nee Tahi Buhn, we strive to cultivate a positive environment in which members of all ages can learn, grow and thrive. We place a great deal of importance on preserving our culture and traditions, which are deeply embedded in our language, arts and ceremonies. Through language revitalization programs, and local sustainable social enterprise projects, we continue to honor our past and move towards a brighter future.

The Nee Tahi Buhn First Nation is guided by a dedicated team of leaders, including a Chief, two Councillors, and a Deputy Chief, all elected by our community to serve four-year terms. These leaders are committed to making decisions that benefit our community while ensuring that our cherished traditions and culture are preserved for future generations.

Overview of the Role

As the General Manager, you will lead the Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band Administration with a commitment to implementing the vision and goals of the Band while embodying and modeling its values and guiding principles. This pivotal leadership role is responsible for coordinating, reporting, and administering executive and administrative policies, and ensuring the effective delivery of all Band programs and services to the community. Reporting directly to Chief and Council, the General Manager will oversee financial operations, cultivate a positive work culture, supervise Band employees, and ensure the successful implementation of community programs and services. The successful candidate will also foster communication and connections within the community, contributing to the overall well-being and development of the Nee Tahi Buhn community.

Status: Permanent full-time

Schedule: Monday to Friday, some weekends and evenings

Other: Some travel will be required

Location: In-person is preferred, however there is a potential for a hybrid arrangement

Who You Are

You are a strong people leader. You have a history and passion for creating and managing cohesive teams. You bring a wealth of experience in administration, finance and management, a deep understanding of and respect for First Nations cultures, traditions, history and concerns, and a desire to uphold the Nee Tahi Buhn traditions and culture.

What You will do

  1. Oversee and administer Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band programs and services, ensuring compliance with Council directives, policies, laws, and by-laws in daily operations.
  2. Attend, provide support and often facilitate General Band Meetings, Special Council Meetings, and Committee Meetings.
  3. Serve as a non-voting Administrator on Council Committees, attending meetings as required or directed by Council.
  4. Manage financial operations, budgets, and reports with the Chief Financial Officer, ensuring all expenditures meet budgetary restrictions and requirements.
  5. Supervise, lead, mentor and coach 12+ Band employees, ensuring effective employee work plans and providing support, training, and development for all.
  6. Oversee Band programs and services delivery, including public works, housing, social work, education, and training.
  7. Function as the liaison and public relations coordinator for administrative matters, communicating with community members, other First Nations, provincial and federal governments, municipalities, and other relevant agencies.
  8. Coordinate community development activities.
  9. Lead and evaluate staff performance as needed.
  10. Resolve project-related and high-level issues.
  11. Coordinate and recommend legal and professional resources to represent the Band in actions as directed by Council.

What you Bring

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration OR a Diploma in Business or Public Administration with three years experience OR 5 years of administration and management experience combined.
  2. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to create a strong, cohesive team.
  3. Experience implementing strategic and operation plans.
  4. Strong financial management skills including the audit process.
  5. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and listen.
  6. Proven mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  7. Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion.
  8. Experience working with First Nations and understanding of First Nations health, social, and information management concerns.
  9. Highly initiative-taking, able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  10. Strong decision-making skills, objectivity, diplomacy, and fairness, and excellent problem-solving and sound judgment abilities.
  11. Experience creating a safe workplace culture where equity, diversity and inclusion are embraced and practiced.
  12. Solid computer software skills, including Microsoft Office, Adagio, Paydirt and Bamboo H.R., are assets.
  13. Valid BC Driver’s License.

What We Offer

Salary: $85 – 95,000.00 per annum
Three weeks annual vacation (6% accrual)
An additional paid time off during the festive season
