Position Overview

As General Civil Superintendent and reporting to the Director, Land Operations, you will oversee the civil operations on Beedie construction sites, with a focus on our masterplan community projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and implementing project plans and schedules, providing support and guidance to site supervisors, keeping all stakeholders informed of project progress, and anticipating potential challenges and offering proactive solutions to drive projects forward. This role requires a visionary leader who can foster a collaborative work environment across multiple departments and ensure seamless communication across all levels. This includes mentoring and developing the skills of the team and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. The ability to lead by example and make informed, strategic decisions will be crucial in navigating complex project dynamics and achieving successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates leadership in health, safety, and environmental protection on the project. Applies the requirements of the Health and Safety Program to promote overall compliance of Beedie Construction standards, applicable OH&S Acts, regulations and codes with all employees and subcontractors on the project and promptly addressing any hazards.
  • Working with the Project Management team to develop work scopes/plans and budgets.
  • Review project plans and specifications as project progresses to ensure they meet the necessary requirements and identify and offer solutions to potential issues proactively.
  • Develops, maintains, and drives the construction schedule in conjunction with project team; ensures project milestones and completion dates are met.
  • Assist Project Management with bid review prior to awarding civil contracts.
  • Ensures that projects are built according to approved plans, specifications, shop drawings, applicable codes and that high quality standards are maintained.
  • Resolving disputes and arranging necessary changes to keep the project on track.
  • Facilitates the forming and maintaining of partnerships on site between multiple subcontractors and neighboring property owners.
  • Supervises field employees and subcontractors making sure their work is planned and performed efficiently – which includes ensuring their extra work orders (EWO) and timesheets are accurately coded.
  • Mentors project team members and contributes to their development and career growth.
  • Document and maintain a thorough report that accurately tracks site progress, events, inspections, and other relevant information.
  • Provide regular updates on project status to stakeholders, including progress reports and forecast updates.
  • Pro-actively collaborates with senior leadership on project strategy and execution.
  • Leads project meetings with internal and external stakeholders to monitor and support the project’s ongoing progression.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Degree/certification in a civil discipline considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of civil construction experience as a Superintendent or similar direct supervisory role.
  • Previous experience successfully managing civil construction projects.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Skilled at promoting teamwork with project team and stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes.
  • Ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule, and budget.
  • In-depth knowledge of interpreting and preparing construction documents, scheduling, contracts, costs, and budgets.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholder’s needs, and identify solutions.
  • Capable of identifying constructability issues in moderately complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with scheduling software.
$145,000 - $175,000 a year
The annual base pay range for this position will be based on the desired experience level for this role.
