How You Will Make An Impact

The General Accountant demonstrates responsibility and enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients, visitors and staff by being accountable for the daily accounting functions, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, to ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements.


Responsibilities

Through responsible leadership and effective role modelling, the General Accountant is responsible for the demonstration of the Mission, Vision and Values at work within the Finance department and Good Shepherd. The General Accountant will be responsible for:

  1. Providing service in a dignified, culturally competent and respectful manner that reflects the charism of Good Shepherd Centres and which reflects an integrated anti-racism/anti-oppression framework.
  2. Acting as a resource to managers and directors as needed.
  3. Providing back up to Accounting Coordinator position.
  4. Preparing and processing bank deposits and receivables in ERP system.
  5. Entering donation revenues in the ERP system.
  6. Confirming accuracy of vendor invoices, coding and following up on discrepancies.
  7. Calculating HST tax distribution costs and recoveries.
  8. Assisting in compiling data for monthly and quarterly ministry and city regulatory reporting.
  9. Recording expense allocation codes for accounts payable processing.
  10. Assisting in processing of cheque and EFT runs.
  11. Preparing monthly recurring journal entries and accrual journal entries as required.
  12. Reconciling general ledger balance sheet accounts.
  13. Completing monthly bank reconciliations.
  14. Completing monthly corporate credit card reconciliations.
  15. Generating Aged AP and AR reports, bringing anything over 90 days to Manager's attention.
  16. Preparing monthly government HST remittances.
  17. Processing all annual accounting functions including:
  18. Assisting in the preparation of year end working papers for audit requirements.
  19. Assisting Manager of Finance in the Maintenance of the Capital Asset records and reconciliations.
  20. Ensuring compliance with legislated regulations, agency guidelines and policies, including adherence to established approval and control processes.
  21. Processing monthly accounts receivable functions including but not limited to:
  • Vendor statements with system transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Processing all annual accounts receivable functions.
  • Performing any other duties related to the Good Shepherd as directed by the Manager of Finance or delegate.

Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
