Job description

Waste Connections of Canada, the leader in non-hazardous solid waste management in North America, is looking for FRONT END/ROLL OFF - GARBAGE TRUCK DRIVERS to join our team in Kingston, ON. We are looking for a safety-inclined, energetic, autonomous, and proactive team player capable of making a difference in his/her team and community.

Position Summary:

The driver will be responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle, maintaining truck and route cleanliness, and completing accurate vehicle condition reports.

  • Pay rate: $26.09
  • Hours: Monday - Friday (day shift)
  • Benefits: Full benefit package

Main Duties:

  • Ensure the safe operation of a truck while driving, loading, and unloading.
  • Drive to customer locations for pickup and position the truck safely to ensure a safe lift.
  • Hoist bins onto the truck using a hydraulic lift.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through reliable service.
  • Resolve blocked access if possible (e.g., honk horn or call dispatcher/customer; take a picture of vehicle blocking access, return for later pickup).
  • Dump contents at designated recycling facilities or landfills.
  • Review run sheets listing calls and identify any potential issues.
  • At the beginning of the shift, complete a thorough pre-trip inspection.
  • At the end of the shift, fuel the truck and complete a thorough post-trip inspection.

Requirements:

  • A commercial driver's license is required and must be maintained.
  • Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience.
  • Roll-off and/or front-end loader experience preferred.
  • Class 3 or higher commercial driver's license with an air-brake endorsement.
  • Excellent spatial skills to position vehicles and bins effectively and drive accident-free.
  • Effective communication skills to convey information to dispatchers and customers.
  • Knowledge of the area and traffic patterns in order to schedule a run or take a detour is a strong asset.
  • Physically mobile: able to climb in and out of the truck to unlock/lock bins (or roll recycling containers) and to clean out the truck after dumping contents.
