Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka, an affiliate of the Cancer Support Community, is dedicated to providing support, education and hope to all people impacted by cancer. Gilda’s Club provides a gathering place where people with cancer or who have lost a loved one to cancer, and their families, can join with others to actively involve themselves in building social and emotional support.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fundraising and Marketing Manager is the key individual who is responsible for the creation and execution of Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka (GCSM) fundraising efforts and marketing communications. The Fundraising and Marketing Manager ensures that GCSM generates the resources -both financial and in kind - to ensure the delivery of services consistent with and supportive of Gilda’s Club strategic plan. The position is responsible for managing and coordinating Gilda’s resource development operations and all marketing communications on behalf of GCSM.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- General Duties
- Acquire a thorough understanding of GCSM Programs and the Cancer Support Community, GCSM brand and strategic/business plan priorities.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to secure timely corporate sponsorships, drive successful stewardship activities related to Beyond the Red Door Society, Major Gifts, and Annual Campaigns.
- Establish, implement, and evaluate resource development strategies and priorities including annualized targets, through consultation with the Executive Director and community stakeholders with the support of the Board of Directors Resource Development Committee.
- Develop a robust call culture to secure gifts from high-net-worth individuals, foundations and corporations, in conjunction with the Executive Director and the Events, Volunteer and Outreach Manager.
- Prepare and own the budget for the fundraising and marketing communications, in conjunction with the Executive Director.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to execute a plan that cultivates and solicits major/annual donors, corporate sponsors, foundation partners and participants from current and new sources.
- Ensure a diverse, high quality resource development plan that is congruent with the current mission, philosophy, policies, and guidelines.
- Prepare and deliver funding proposals to prospects in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Establish and maintain ongoing communication and support with fellow staff members.
- Keep accurate statistical and database records in accordance with Gilda’s Club policies.
- Provide verbal and written reports to the Executive Director, as required.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to identify, cultivate and convert event participants to GCSM Donors.
- Collaborate with Executive Director and EVOM to secure timely corporate sponsorship, ticket sales, auction item solicitation and other aspects of Signature Events.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and the EVOM support the Development of 2nd and 3rd party contacts.
- Marketing Communications/Public Relations
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, Internal Staff and Board Development Committee to develop an annual Development Communications Plan.
- Develop and execute all social media activities, identifying social media opportunities to ensure event success, acknowledge event organizers and donors.
- Support the digital and social media plan with postings to drive events and fundraising success.
- In consultation with the staff, coordinate the quarterly newsletter production (Gildagram) and distribute to all contacts, as required.
- Ensure that fellow team members are kept informed on current resource development plans to ensure that consistent messages are communicated to the community.
- Present to internal and external groups as necessary and appropriate.
- Develop email blasts media/public relations related to Signature events, 2nd, 3rd party.
- Assist GCSM employees with branding issues, as required.
- Provide marketing support to 2nd and 3rd Party organizers to ensure participation, profile, and profit.
- Community Partnerships/Outreach
- Execute effective outreach tactics to ensure resource development priorities are developed with input and participation from community stakeholders.
- Represent the organization on multi-stakeholder committees as required and facilitate positive working relationships with other community organizations.
- Attend Signature Events to support in Recognizing Sponsors and Event Organizers to retain partnerships year after year in collaboration with EVOM.
Education and Experience:
- College diploma or undergraduate degree or related work experience with a focus on fundraising, marketing, public relations, and communications.
- Excellent organization and negotiation skills.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
- High standard of integrity, judgement, and confidentiality.
- Results-oriented and creative.
- In-depth knowledge of the communities in Simcoe County, York Region, and Muskoka.
