Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Building and Operations, and working closely with the Associate Dean (Academic), this position will play a significant role in evaluating and improving the IT capabilities for the Faculty of Arts. The Analyst will contribute to the support of faculty-specific IT systems to ensure that they meet the current and future needs of the user community. The Analyst will partner with Central IT Services and Teaching and Learning Services to ensure IT services are being leveraged optimally within the faculty.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Participates in developing a vision of the Faculty’s IT needs that address the requirements of diverse stakeholders and the evolution of technological solutions, in collaboration with Central IT Services and Teaching and Learning Services.
  2. Elicit, analyze, validate, and document IT needs as it pertains to the specific academic, teaching, organizational and/or operational requirements of the Faculty of Arts.
  3. Survey the Faculty user-community to establish IT priorities and measure satisfaction with its Information Technology.
  4. Plan, develop, coordinate, implement processes required to respond to academic, administrative and students’ IT demands.
  5. Work with other IT Professionals and Business Subject Matter Experts in validating and recommending IT solutions that meet business requirements and are aligned with IT orientations.
  6. Prioritize the adoption of existing platforms wherever possible over introducing new solutions with overlapping functionality.
  7. Transform business requirements and conceptual system designs into detailed functional specifications in accordance with design standards.
  8. Evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding and distinguish user requests from the true underlying needs.
  9. Assist the stakeholders with the development of business cases.
  10. Support the rollout, promotion, and adoption of IT solutions within the Faculty of Arts by leveraging effective change management practices.
  11. With the support of Central IT Services, promote cybersecurity, data protection, and safe computing practices across the entire Faculty of Arts community.
  12. Ensure faculty compliance with IT directives, policies, and governance.
  13. Support Business Subject Matter Experts and users during user acceptance testing.
  14. Assist in the development of application documentation, user documentation and training materials.
  15. Manage the student computer Lab, including the student staff, and overseeing other computer Labs that are part of the Faculty.
  16. Act as the IT asset steward for the faculty and work closely with Central IT Services to establish procedures for improving the quality of the Faculty’s hardware and software inventory.
  17. Manage software licenses for applications purchased by the faculty.
  18. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and their potential benefits to the Faculty community.
  19. Act as a key resource in raising, validating, and communicating incidents/problems and act as a liaison between Business Subject Matter Experts, technical teams and/or third-party vendors as required.
  20. Provide estimates for tasks and artifacts under own responsibility.
  21. Directly supervise one staff member.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

  1. Functional knowledge of IT and Higher Education business domains.
  2. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills & ability to perform root/cause analysis.
  3. Self-motivated and ability to work well with multiple teams in a cross-functional setup.
  4. Ability to take supervisory and management direction to work effectively and with little direct supervision in order to complete tasks.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse team of professionals, as well as to work together with other staff on projects for clients we serve.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple initiatives and to manage deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of functional analysis and data analysis.
  8. Ability to understand and clarify business needs formulated by requesters and stakeholders.
  9. Experience in working with third-party software and third-party suppliers.
  10. Demonstrated effective communication, writing and planning skills.
  11. English, spoken and written. French spoken and read.

Knowledge of French and English:

McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 4 on a scale of 0-4.

Bachelor's Degree, 3 Years Related Experience

Annual Salary:

(MPEX Grade 05) $70,820.00 - $88,530.00 - $106,240.00
