Overview

Under the general supervision of the Director of Services, the Social Worker provides individual, group, and family counselling and evidence-based rehabilitative programs to address the mental health and emotional issues of the youth. The Social Worker is responsible for completing clinical reports for casework and case file review with Youth Justice Officers. The Social Worker will provide guidance and support for the Youth Justice Officers in the development of crisis management strategies for individual young persons.

  • Position Details: Monday to Friday (40hrs/week), paid bi-weekly, & eligible for Benefits, Pension and Vacation following completion of probationary period!

Specific Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
  • Provide clinical assessment and screening of a young person, which includes, but is not limited to MAYSI-2, MSE, GAD-7, PHQ 9, Suicide Watch Assessment, and maintain ongoing assessments to evaluate treatment outcomes.
  • Provide crisis intervention services.
  • Develop and coordinate with Case Management Coordinator and Youth Justice Officers the young person's clinical plan to address measurable outcomes: Improved Functioning and Positive Social Behaviours, Increased Skills and Abilities, Increased Youth Engagement with Supports, Decreased Re-Offending.
  • Complete referrals for young persons to appropriate external agencies and culturally relevant resources as developed in the individualized Case Management Plan.
  • Collaborate with partners (Probation Office, other agencies, family/guardian).
  • Actively participate in ongoing training as needed to meet all certification standards and credentialing policies of OCSWSSW, MCCSS.
  • Regularly engage in clinical supervision activities, as available.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Case Management Responsibilities
  • Coordinate weekly case review with the Case Management Coordinator and Youth Justice Officers to audit case file (e.g., goal setting/progress, report preparations).
  • Manage caseloads and records of a confidential and private nature, in strict compliance with policy, regulation, and procedures of relevant legislation and accreditation as a Social Worker.
  • Provide clinical consultation for Youth Justice Officers and ensure the overall Case Management (Clinical) of young persons is appropriate to the young person’s needs.
  • Prepare Court Reports when necessary.
  • Attend court as a professional witness as required.
  • Track and monitor progress against a young person’s rehabilitation goals (plan).

Program Duties
  • Facilitate educational sessions for staff training as part of program directives and requirements or requested by Human Resources.
  • Collaborate with the Administration Manager (Records) on psychotropic medication updates and instructions from the consulting Psychiatrist.
  • Attend with and accompany Young Person to scheduled community Psychiatric/Psychological appointments to provide continuity of care with treatment plan.
  • Attend committee, public, educational, and MCCSS meetings on behalf of Ray of Hope.
  • Participate in physical interventions and implementing the behaviour management system as required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

QualificationsEducation
  • Master of Social Work with completion of a clinical placement.

Experience
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with at-risk youth. Previous clinical experience working with youth is preferred.

Certifications
  • Must be and maintain accreditation as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) or equivalent.
  • Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) Certificate.
  • Standard First Aid Level-C CPR & AED or willingness to obtain prior to employment.
  • ASIST training.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required To Be Successful In This Position
  • Specific counselling modalities and demonstrated ability: Cognitive Behaviour Interventions, Solution Focused Brief Therapy Interventions, Dialectical Behaviour Interventions.
  • Familiar with policies of Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services – Youth Justice Services, as well as applicable legislation governing (Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act).
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension in the English language.

Requirements
  • Vulnerable Sector Check/Police Check.
  • Valid, unrestricted Class “G” Ontario Driver’s licence.
  • Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract through Service Ontario.
  • Employment Medical Form including immunization record.

Physical Demands
  • Standing (20%), sitting (60%) and walking (20%).
  • Frequent use of mental capabilities and concentration.
  • Possible exposure to hazards such as harassment, physical or verbal aggression or aggressive behaviours, witness to harassment or violence, and similar variables.
  • Possible risk of vicarious trauma.
  • Infrequent exposure to environmental hazards, including Hot/Cold and regular environmental variables.
  • This position requires the person to consistently work with and around others.
  • The incumbent may be required to assist in a physical intervention of male youth utilizing the approved restraint program.
