GEOSPATIAL PRACTICE

We are a national leader in implementing straightforward approaches to the development and deployment of scalable enterprise Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) solutions. For example, we use aerial, static, and mobile Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) systems that accurately determine range, elevation, and other critical mapping data. With hundreds of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), survey, mapping, and IT professionals in our Geospatial Practice across North America, Michael Baker International possesses in-house experience and resources to support all elements of your program needs, including needs analysis, digitizing/data conversion, customized mapping applications, and systems documentation, implementation, and training.

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Developer in the Western Region (CA, NV, WA, OR, ID, CO, AZ, MT, UT) to join our National Geospatial Practice at Michael Baker International. This role is responsible for driving growth and expansion of geographic information systems (GIS) services and solutions, sales tracking, development and execution of a sales capture plan, and industry engagement to achieve the organization's goals for new work added and strategic growth. The primary focus of this role is to identify new business opportunities, build and maintain client relationships, contribute to our new work added goals, and develop strategic partnerships. An individual in this role will work closely with marketing, sales, and solution engineers to ensure the successful implementation of GIS projects, initiatives, and strategic plans.

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the GIS sector.
  • Contribute to and implement strategic business development plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and proposals to potential clients.
  • Collaborate with the technical team to ensure client requirements are met.
  • Negotiate contracts and close deals.
  • Monitor and report on sales performance and market trends.
  • Attend industry events and conferences to network and promote the company.
  • Ensure client success.

Client and Industry Engagement:

  • Support/attend industry meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Generate and develop new business relationships.
  • Schedule and organize intentional engagement with industry partners and clients.
  • Engage internal personnel to attend engagements when/where appropriate.
  • Ensure single sales opportunity (SSO) leads are timely and accurately entered into the sales tracking program, Oracle’s Marketing & Sales Information System (MSIS).
  • Analyze sales funnel data to understand the following:
    • Do we have the volume of potential work to chase that supports practice resources and meet New Work Added projections?
    • Do the sales opportunities support the strategic plan for the practice?
  • Hold pre-engagement meetings/calls with Business Development Director and Project Managers (PM) to discuss objectives of the engagement.
  • Record, organize, and disseminate information from engagement activities to appropriate personnel – includes detailed intel gathered for capture efforts.
  • Maintain Client Account Plans for top tier clients – includes working with PMs to complete and maintain accurate information.
  • Facilitate routine Client Mapping Meetings with Business Development Director and the National Geospatial Practice Executive – includes determining participant size/make-up, which Tier 1 and Tier 2 clients will be discussed, record client engagement action items, etc.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 15+ years related experience in business development for GIS services.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • GISP is preferred.
  • Proven experience in business development, sales, or a related role within the GIS industry.
  • Strong understanding of GIS services and applications.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS software (Esri technology and other associated GIS platforms).

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
