The Opportunity:
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the management and maintenance of the Food Safety and HACCP systems at MLF Brandon to ensure the plant’s ability to demonstrate ongoing compliance.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
- Provides Food Safety support to other members of FSQA and production.
- Follows up on CFIA Standard Inspection Process (SIP) Observations to ensure action plans are effectively in place to prevent SIP Non-conformances and further observations.
- Administers third party and customer food safety requirements.
- Maintains Food Safety documents according to the written program, ensures that documents are reviewed/revised as scheduled.
- Liaises with other stakeholders, initiates and assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Administers training (including plant orientation) and assist with maintenance of Food Safety and Quality Assurance training programs.
- Ensures that new policies, procedures and changes are implemented with appropriate documentation and training.
- Assists with the management of the corrective action program to reduce the occurrence of repeat deficiencies/deviations (i.e.: follow up on non-compliances to ensure effectiveness).
- Verifies that the plant is in compliance with the written program on an ongoing basis.
- Provides timely and effective feedback to the FSQA Manager, FSQA Supervisor and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Liaises with the HACCP Specialist and FSQA Technicians (HACCP) to maintain document control, tracking and ensure compliance.
- Maintains current knowledge of regulatory changes, new policies and industry standards.
- Develops and implements training programs for employees.
- Responsible as back-up support for Quality Assurance Department in times of absence of HACCP Specialist and FSQA Technicians (HACCP).
- Prevents the ongoing production of non-compliant product when non-conformities are observed or identified.
- Controls any non-compliant product that has been produced, performs a food safety assessment and determines appropriate disposition.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor of Science or Diploma in Food Safety/Science program or equivalent industry experience (2 – 3 years).
- HACCP I-II certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to follow and understand standard operating procedures, regulatory requirements, etc.
- Confident in communicating effectively with plant supervisors, management and CFIA.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills and strong communication skills – verbal, written, listening.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to function in a fast-paced production environment.
- Demonstrated dependability in current position (i.e.: attendance and performance).
- Computer literacy with an understanding of MS Office programs – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Understanding of HACCP & Food Safety will be a definite asset.
- Working experience in the fresh pork industry, knowledge of the different meat cuts and food quality issues will be a definite asset.
