Job Description:

Position Purpose summary: To provide support services and guidance to the Gladstone House clients within the context of the overall operations, including maintaining the security of the facility and its residents.

Accountabilities:

Client Services

  1. Maintains records as required (e.g. incident reports, log notes, and case notes)
  2. When necessary, gather information to further assess client needs aligned with individual support plans
  3. When required, assist clients in creating goal plans; monitor progress and aid clients in working towards set goals in order to live an autonomous lifestyle
  4. Follow established procedures in referring clients to appropriate Salvation Army and Community resources; advocate on behalf of clients to other Salvation Army and community resources
  5. Ensure appropriate information is communicated to residents
  6. Ensure residency guidelines are enforced impartially
  7. Monitor to ensure clients are participating in all house requirements, follow up with the client and provide feedback to House Supervisor when necessary
  8. Implement consequence for inappropriate behavior of clients in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines
  9. Administer urine screens when necessary
  10. Refer clients to House Supervisor for interviews regarding serious behavioral issues and consequences
  11. Attend staff meetings and case conferences prepared to offer information regarding clients and services issues
  12. Complete rounds, security checks and duties as indicated by Shift Statement of Duties
  13. Refer maintenance requests and program needs to Supervisor
  14. Facilitates weekly checking and updating of resident medication
  15. Participates in monthly case conferences

Health and Safety

  1. Adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures in place; complies with all instructions from the employer concerning health and safety as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WSIB
  2. Ensures all procedures, rules and guidelines for the safety and security of clients and staff are enforced and respected

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Governance Boards and Councils

  1. None

Internal:

  1. Works collaboratively as part of the Gladstone team

External:

  1. Liaises with client support workers, outreach workers and other community resources to provide services to the clients

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Supervisor of Gladstone House

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  1. Not applicable

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Combination of sitting, standing, walking around a house
  2. May deal with angry and abusive clients
  3. May encounter verbal abuse
  4. May be required to deal with client overdose and other medical situations
  5. May be required to lift approx. 50 lbs.
  6. Depending on shift, may be required to work alone

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  1. Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent work experience

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  1. Experience working with a marginalized population and issues they face such as addiction and mental health

Skills and Capabilities:

  1. Ability to self-motivate and work with minimal supervision
  2. Effective oral and written communication skills
  3. Effective interpersonal skills and listening skills
  4. Basic computer skills
  5. Training in non-violent crisis intervention, ASIST, First Aid and CPR is an asset
  6. Experience administering Narcan and/or Narcan training a strong asset
  7. Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
  8. Must supply a current Vulnerable Police Sector Check

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $20.25 to $25.31 with a maximum of $30.37. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
