Forklift Operator/Material Handler

Reporting to the Production Manager/ Shop Supervisor, you will be responsible for operating a Forklift loading structural steel to supply the shop welding crews and move finished product back to the project storage areas in the yard. Reports to: Shop Supervisor

1. Responsibilities:

1. Maintain excellent attendance record
2. Stage raw material for fitters in a safe and timely manner using overhead crane and other mechanical aids
3. Load fabricated structural steel products onto wagons using overhead crane for primer application
4. Remove finished structural steel product on wagons from production facility and stage for yard forklift operators to move to designated laydown areas
5. Palletize smaller finished products, strap and mark accordingly to be removed from shop using forklift for yard team to move to designated laydown areas
6. Clearly communicate and work collaboratively with equipment operators cutting parts, fitters requiring material, as well as the yard team of forklift operators receiving the finished product from the shop
7. Maintain good housekeeping in shop by removing empty pallets, wood and plastic, etc. and placing material accordingly
8. Maintain forklift equipment by performing pre-use inspections and troubleshooting issues
9. Safe operation of overhead crane and mobile equipment for material movement

2. Requirements/Qualifications:

1. Trained and competent in forklift operation
2. Previous experience in a fabrication environment
3. Ability to assess weights, judge distances and heights
4. Good time management, organization, and people skills
5. Physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs.
6. Able to work independently or as part of a team
7. Ability to speak, read, write and understand English clearly
8. Possess problem-solving skills

3. Health & Safety Responsibilities:

1. Active participation in company safety program
2. Follow safety protocol including wearing required PPE and understanding and application of safety policies, procedures, and practices

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
