Directly responsible to Packing, Shipping, and Receiving Manager. Must respond to requests from all plant personnel when the need arises. Functionally responsible for safe handling and storage of material and the safe operation of forklift in a safe and courteous manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Forklift Operator are detailed below, but not limited to the following:
Ensure forklift is in good working condition, reporting any malfunctions, defects, or issues immediately.
Check radiator, engine oil, hydraulic oil, and brake fluid each day before start-up.
Adequately supply material to the area of assignment, ensuring that there is no downtime caused by material shortage.
Follow the flow of material procedures, ensuring that material is moved, stored, and documented effectively.
Ensure material is tagged with work order number, die number, number of pieces, and temper, and that the load is free from debris before transporting from production, fabrication, or packing areas.
Ensure all aluminum scrap bins at saw locations and presses are emptied a half hour before the end of each shift and have weights and their origin accurately documented.
Stack material safely and efficiently without causing damage to property or surrounding material.
Weigh all material and record gross weight on skid before loading onto truck.
Ensure all paperwork is complete before loading material on truck.
Comply with all quality-related policies, procedures, and system requirements.
Assist in other departments as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
Training and valid certification to operate a counterbalance forklift.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating a counterbalance forklift full-time.
Technical Skills/Competence
Must be able to read and write in English and be familiar with weights and measurements.
Basic computer skills required.
Must have received training to operate a counterbalance forklift through a recognized institute.
A solid understanding of the following equipment/technology: forklift, snips, slings, tape measure, weighing scale, overhead cranes, dollies, chains, computers.
Experience operating a multi-directional COMBI forklift is considered a strong asset.
