Reports to: Food Technologist Supervisor

Food & Safety Quality Level: 1

Purpose:

Reporting to the Food Technologist Supervisor, this position includes employing scientific and technological knowledge with respect to techniques, processes, methods, materials and ingredients in a food pilot plant. The role supports the R&D activities in formulation and development of new products from the concept stage to prototype and full-scale production.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate pilot plant manufacturing equipment for batch trials
  • Conduct analytical testing on samples and finished goods
  • Perform the pilot plant’s laboratory testing including organoleptic and instrumentation
  • Responsible for the managing and training of coop student(s)
  • Conduct sensory analysis of various dairy products
  • Prepare samples and paperwork for external lab testing
  • Coordinate preventive and on-going maintenance of equipment
  • Maintain laboratory and pilot plant cleanliness
  • Follow quality and safety program
  • Conduct experiments and plant trials in manufacturing facilities, as required
  • Travel up to 20% to various sites
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum College diploma in Food Science/Food Technology, Food Analytical Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food/Chemical Engineering
  • Valid G2 or G license with access to a car daily
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Work primarily on days, but must be able to work flexible hours based upon business needs
  • Understand federal and provincial Government Regulations
  • Knowledge of ingredients functionality and processes typically used in dairy manufacturing
