PROGRAM: Mount Paul Community Food Centre
LOCATION: Kamloops, BC
STATUS: Full-Time
HOURS of WORK: 37.5 hours per week
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday with a flexible schedule with some work in the evenings and the occasional weekends.
COMPENSATION: $29.17 - $33.49 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)

ABOUT THE JOB: The Food Skills Coordinator is a key member of the Community Food Centre model and works to build skills and knowledge around healthy meal preparation and nutrition with our community members. The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about good food and equitable access to it. They will have strong cooking and nutrition skills, experience facilitating sessions with diverse groups of community members, and a desire to use food to build community.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Accessing and promoting the use of local nutritional food.
- Cooking and teaching to cook nutritious food using a wide range of cooking techniques and cuisines.
- Facilitating learning and advocacy groups, in a safe and inclusive space for participants.
- Cultivating communication, leadership, and food skills amongst program participants and volunteers.
- Coordinating a high number of volunteers including interviewing, screening, onboarding, and supervising volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
- Promoting public awareness of Community Food Centre and programs through promotional material, social media, and participation in community events.
- Measuring and evaluating program impact and making recommendations to the supervisor for improvements.
- Establishing and fostering partnerships with other community groups and organizations.
- Ensuring the health and safety standards are practiced in the food skills kitchen.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE: - Diploma in a relevant field
- Two years of related experience in culinary skills, food preservation methods, program development, and group facilitation.
- Experience in volunteer coordination
- Or a combination of education, training, and experience
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES: - Knowledge of nutrition, cooking, food preservation, food security, and sustainable food systems.
- Knowledge of a wide range of cooking techniques and cuisines.
- Demonstrated facilitation skills delivering educational workshops and training.
- Strong organization, planning, and coordinating skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and professional communication skills.
- Strong ability to work independently with little supervision and as a strong contributing member of a team.
- Ability to work effectively with vulnerable populations who may have experienced social isolation and poverty.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and improve community programming and engagement.
REQUIREMENTS: - Valid Class 5 Driver’s license (or equivalent) and safe driving record.
- Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Food Safe, Mandt (1-day), Anti-Bullying, and Harassment.
- This job requires union membership with a 1.85% union due deducted from pay.
- Background checks through the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and RCMP are required. (reimbursement of costs with satisfactory result and receipt provided)
