Job description

Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Supervisor or Cook I, the Food Services Worker performs a range of duties and procedures relating to the operation of Food Services, including cleaning and maintaining the dietary area under limited supervision. Responsibilities include:

  1. Physical Demand: Bending, twisting, lifting, standing, and reaching overhead.
  2. Working in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines.
  3. Safely operating, loading, unloading, and maintaining the dish machine and other equipment as per established procedures.
  4. Following cleaning procedures.
  5. Assembling and stripping patient meal trays and performing dish room duties.
  6. Transporting food carts and delivering patient meal trays to floors while communicating with patients.
  7. Reporting any food items of doubtful quality and accurately preparing and portioning items.
  8. Performing complete cleaning of the serving area.
  9. Maintaining inventory by unloading and unpacking goods and placing them into storage areas.
  10. Handling cash transactions and ensuring good interaction skills with customers.
  11. Setting up and delivering catering services.
  12. Communicating with Clinical Nutrition staff and other AHS staff.
  13. Maintaining a neat and clean appearance and following the dress code.
  14. Reading, writing, and communicating in English.

Description:

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include:
  1. Packaging and portioning food items.
  2. Preparing food according to set guidelines and menus.
  3. Serving meals to patients and customers.
  4. Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables, and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable of lifting food, supplies, and equipment up to 46 lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250 lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Preferred Qualifications:

Customer service experience, food service experience, experience in a hospital or long-term care environment, experience with inventory management, receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates, and minimizing waste while utilizing “First in- First Out” procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment, Food Safe Certificate or equivalent, and WHMIS training.
