Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Supervisor or Cook I, the Food Services Worker performs a range of duties and procedures relating to the operation of Food Services, including cleaning and maintaining the dietary area under limited supervision. Responsibilities include:
- Physical Demand: Bending, twisting, lifting, standing, and reaching overhead.
- Working in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines.
- Safely operating, loading, unloading, and maintaining the dish machine and other equipment as per established procedures.
- Following cleaning procedures.
- Assembling and stripping patient meal trays and performing dish room duties.
- Transporting food carts and delivering patient meal trays to floors while communicating with patients.
- Reporting any food items of doubtful quality and accurately preparing and portioning items.
- Performing complete cleaning of the serving area.
- Maintaining inventory by unloading and unpacking goods and placing them into storage areas.
- Handling cash transactions and ensuring good interaction skills with customers.
- Setting up and delivering catering services.
- Communicating with Clinical Nutrition staff and other AHS staff.
- Maintaining a neat and clean appearance and following the dress code.
- Reading, writing, and communicating in English.
Description:As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include:
- Packaging and portioning food items.
- Preparing food according to set guidelines and menus.
- Serving meals to patients and customers.
- Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables, and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable of lifting food, supplies, and equipment up to 46 lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250 lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Preferred Qualifications:Customer service experience, food service experience, experience in a hospital or long-term care environment, experience with inventory management, receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates, and minimizing waste while utilizing “First in- First Out” procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment, Food Safe Certificate or equivalent, and WHMIS training.
