Primary Responsibilities:
Reporting to the New Products & Initiatives Manager, the Food Quality Coordinator is responsible for implementation, maintenance and assistance in development of the best-in-class Food Safety Management System, Quality Management System, and assistance with all legal, compliance, third party and customer requirements.
Job Duties:
As the Food Safety Coordinator, you will be primarily responsible for stewardship and co-management of the Quality Management System (QMS), and Food Safety Management System (FSMS). Additional regulatory requirements associated with these programs are integrated into the Apex system. Assistance in the improvement, development, and delegation of compliance responsibilities within the Compliance and Operational departments will require a strong command of verbal and written English skills and the ability to prioritize key deliverables in a timely manner. For the FSMS and QMS programs, coordination of efforts with the related team members is essential to avoid duplication of efforts.
The overall scope of compliance objectives is provided by the New Products & Initiatives Manager. Provision of support to additional compliance programs (Organic Certification, Kosher certification, etc.) is included in the job scope and supported by the Compliance Department.
Strong communication skills with vendors, customers, auditors, and additional stakeholders are required. The Food Quality Coordinator focuses on written documents, involving editing of documents from the QA & FSMS Specialist as well as authoring new and improved standard operating procedures. Participation in the activities of inspection, internal auditing, product analysis and evaluation, document control (monitoring and verification) are minimum requirements.
Hands-on assistance with the production team, where necessary, is an expectation of the position to ensure food manufactured is both safe and of high quality. Development of procedures, processes, and training programs to support and sustain QA and FSMS initiatives will be ongoing. The position requires strong time management and listening skills to establish compliant programs which are adhered to.
The position requires an individual who can work in both a self-directed manner and within a team environment.
Applicant will ideally have proven experience as a food safety professional and/or quality assurance coordinator for 2+ years. Experience in a food factory/pharmaceutical environment is strongly preferred as is hands-on experience. Strong command of English is essential as the communication demands are high. Advanced skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office programs is a must.
Bachelor’s Degree or greater in Food Science, or a reasonably related field is required. Current GFSI recognized training certificate in HACCP and GMP is ideal to assist in audit defense.
