1. Facilitate access to restricted areas for authorized persons
2. Excessive foot patrols (interior/exterior)
3. Responding to tenant requests
4. Emergency Response
5. Monitor closed circuit cameras
6. Coordinate response to incidents
7. Respond to telephone calls received by the security department
8. Incident and daily reporting according to the site requirement and standards
9. High level customer service to all customers and tenants
10. Removal of unauthorized individuals
11. React quickly and professionally during emergencies or stressful situations
12. Conflict de-escalation and trauma-informed safety approaches, with a focus on anti-racism and cultural awareness
13. Addressing issues and resolving conflicts as they arise
14. Maintains a positive attitude and professional appearance
15. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English for clear and calm interactions
16. Provide a visible security presence on all floors of Library and Skywalk during operational hours
17. Control access to the library entrance, including operating metal detection gates and welcoming visitors
18. Offer site information and directions to the public, maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor
19. Collaborate effectively with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to create a safe and welcoming environment
20. Follow opening and closing procedures, including locking/unlocking doors, elevators, and rooms, and activating/deactivating alarm systems
21. Maintain a list of contractors and other visitors
22. Maintain detailed logs of unusual occurrences

1. Good verbal and written communication skills
2. First Aid training is mandatory to work at the site. If a guard already has it, that will be beneficial; if not, they must be willing to complete it
3. Physically and mentally fit to perform duties
4. Previous experience in the security industry (asset)
5. Tactical experience (asset)
6. Good with Technology
7. Valid Manitoba Security Guard license
8. Customer service oriented
9. Must be able to work day shifts
10. Leadership and problem-solving skills
11. Ability to work in a stressful environment
12. Strong customer service skills
13. Good computer literacy
14. Familiarity with security systems, including access control, alarm panels, and CCTV
