Job Description

We currently have an opening for a Senior Fisheries Biologist/Aquatic Scientist to join our team in Vernon. You have a scientific background in fisheries and aquatic ecology and the ability to support a growing environmental team in the Vernon office. The position involves program design and implementation, project management, and client and business development. You will tackle a wide variety of environmental work primarily on local and regional infrastructure engineering projects through all project phases, including occasional travel and remote work.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Designing and overseeing studies and coordinating field surveys.
  • Managing complex multi-disciplinary projects including their budgets and liaising with clients, colleagues, and contractors.
  • Preparing and reviewing high-quality technical reports and workplans for technical programs and writing winning proposals.
  • Leading municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory processes.
  • Developing and managing relationships with industry, government, and Indigenous clients.
  • Contributing to the growth and scientific development of the company.
  • Contributing to business development, including leading and assisting in proposal preparation, client contacts, and meetings.
  • Training and mentoring junior and intermediate aquatics staff.

Job Requirements

What you will bring:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Biology, Fisheries, or Aquatic Science.
  • Professional registration (R.P.Bio., P.Biol.).
  • Adaptability to a wide variety of work types and sizes.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Experience developing and maintaining client relationships.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting.
  • Experience managing project tasks, budgets, and schedules to provide deliverables to clients.
  • Experience writing winning cost proposals and workplans.
  • Practical experience in fish population and aquatic ecology assessments, riparian assessments, offsetting and habitat design, stream channel processes, and streamflow and fish habitat interactions, EFN and eDNA.
  • Experience in study design, field assessment, statistical analysis, and interpretation.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000 and is commensurate with experience relative to this position.
