The Ministry of Natural Resources is looking for an office professional with highly developed leadership skills to provide a wide range of administrative, financial and human resources skills to support the delivery of emergency services in Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

  • Provide financial, administrative, human resources and clerical support to the team.
  • Provide group leadership to seasonal and summer staff.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Provide a variety of administrative functions on field fire assignments.

Financial Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience with budget and accounting procedures, and financial planning processes.
  • Ability to prepare annual work plans and budget estimates, monitor and reconcile expenditures, compile complex data, and extract relevant information to provide reports and analyses.

Administrative and Human Resources Skills:

  • Proven work experience providing administrative, financial and human resources support services.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, and program policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency with computers and all aspects of desktop software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, internet and financial applications.
  • Knowledge of administrative and office procedures, practices, guidelines and equipment.
  • Experience with telephone operations and etiquette to provide effective customer service.

Group Leadership, Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

  • Tact and excellent judgement skills necessary to ensure confidentiality and security of files and records.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills to provide training and direction, recommend performance targets and assist with performance reviews with support staff.
  • Ability to compose correspondence and reports independently with own initiative or from brief instructions.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills to build relationships with a variety of internal and external clients and staff.

Analytical, Problem Solving and Decision Making Skills:

  • Proven analytical skills to analyze and interpret complex financial information and reports.
  • Ability to determine the best way to handle a task, situation or information request.
  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies relating to invoices and updating of financial reports.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills to respond to radio emergency transmission.

Organizational and Prioritization Skills:

  • Highly effective organizational and prioritization skills to assess administrative requirements, and determine and schedule priorities among conflicting demands.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Other Valuable Skills:

  • Ability to work with radio operations and equipment.
