Our client is looking for an intermediate Finance Professional to maintain a capital portfolio of initiatives for the company's Technology group and integrate this function into their Integrated Planning framework.
The Financial Planning Analyst assists in maintaining a capital portfolio of initiatives for the company's Technology group and integrating this function into their Integrated Planning framework. This includes surfacing, capturing and shaping needs for capital IT investments.
A balance of hard and soft skills is necessary to maintain a high-quality portfolio among many interested parties. A balance of IT and finance knowledge is necessary to translate uncertain IT needs into sensible plans, and control a dynamic portfolio and investment workflow.
Responsibilities:
- Work within the Portfolio Management team, Technology Planning & Performance on a range of financial planning and analysis tasks.
- Apply a business mindset in support of team objectives related to capital investment portfolio management, capital planning, business case reviews, benefits realization, and regulatory work.
- Work closely with Technology managers, planners and other staff to surface, capture and shape the changing demand for capital projects and with Finance Support to produce consolidated forecasts.
- Support the ongoing management of the capital portfolio and historical record, enabling ongoing budget management, reporting, and trend analysis.
- Participate in monthly capital management meetings to report budget performance, release projects for initiation, and process ex-plan project requests.
- Support capital planning over multiple time horizons, ensuring continuous alignment with the capital portfolio.
- Work with asset owners and advisors across technology on topics such as project complexity and risk assessment, asset health and criticality, cost escalation, estimation, and benefits analysis.
- Advice on process and tool improvement to aid better portfolio optimization.
- Assist with training of IT advisors and asset owners on capital processes.
Required Experience:
- Financial management, and information technology and/or business management, in a large organization or professional services environment.
- Forecasting, budgeting, and performance management.
- Financial planning and analysis.
- Utilities or public service experience would be an asset.
Education and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or other related disciplines.
- Five (5) to eight (8) years of financial management work experience or equivalent.
- Professional accounting designation such as the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
- Strong financial skills including capital planning, business case writing and financial modeling.
- Comfortable creating, managing and improving datasets, workflows, and tools that support investment decision making.
- Strong ability with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
- Strong service orientation and focus on outcomes.
- Strong people skills including building professional relationships, working across disciplines, and 'leading without authority.'
- Strong communication skills including writing, presenting, and facilitation.
1-year initial contract that may extend based on workload and performance.
WFH and Office based schedule, 2 days a week expected to be in the office, downtown Vancouver.
