MISSION
The Financial Coordinator will be responsible for managing payroll and day-to-day bookkeeping, maintaining accurate records, working with staff in a variety of programs to plan budgets, and ensuring grant compliance. The position will work closely with the Executive Director to secure new sources of funding for the organization. They will also prepare monthly board reports and support the annual audit process. The ideal candidate will uphold our work and values of anti-racism/anti-oppression.
PRIORITIES
- In conjunction with the Executive Director and Governance Council Finance Committee, the coordinator will develop, manage and evaluate the annual budget.
- Coordinate and attend Governance Council Finance Committee meetings.
- Develop and review the financial policies and procedures of the organization in conjunction with the Executive Director.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Executive Director and Treasurer regarding the plans, trends, and concerns of the organization.
- In conjunction with the Executive Director, provide leadership in evaluating and implementing fund development initiatives, including grants, fundraising activities, and donations.
- Oversee and manage the donor database, donor recognition and issuance of charitable tax receipts.
- Prepare and report budgeted and actual revenues and expenditures, and year-end forecasts, monthly to the Finance Committee, Governing Council, and to staff.
- Coordinate with auditors to ensure the preparation of annual audited financial statements.
- Ensure the submission of the annual charitable return to the Canada Revenue Agency.
- Review, research, and negotiate insurance coverage in compliance with funders' requirements and ensuring appropriate Director’s and Officer’s Liability coverage and Commercial Liability coverage.
- Maintain books and process payroll, including issuing T4s, ROEs, etc., and ensure accrual-based accounting in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure the allocation of revenues and expenses to appropriate programme and/or fund categories.
- Other duties as assigned.
TALENTS & EXPERTISE
- Three (3) to five (5) years combined relevant experience and education in Accounting or Finance with knowledge of GAAP.
- Have or are working towards a professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA).
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Experience with financial analysis, demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices, and knowledge of non-profit funding guidelines.
- Experience with payroll and understanding of employment standards in Ontario.
- Ability to create timely and accurate budget and financial reports and statements in accordance with non-profit accounting standards.
- Ability to coordinate yearly audit of financial records with auditors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a team environment and establish effective working relationships.
- Proficient in computer software applications, payroll, and accounting software, including MS Office, Ceridian PowerPay, Quickbooks, spreadsheets, and database programs.
- Understanding of anti-racism/anti-oppression and commitment to equity in the workplace.
