About the workplace
As a Financial Accountant, you’ll be part of the team that performs full cycle accounting for Vancity and its subsidiaries to support the timely and accurate reporting of financial results. This role assists in the preparation of financial statements and related notes and supports the external audit process.
This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work on-site at least once a week.
A typical day would involve:
- Perform full cycle accounting for assigned Vancity subsidiaries, associated companies, and/or specific lines of business, including the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting.
- Perform accounting for areas such as borrowings, investments, derivatives, accruals, prepaid expenses, elimination entries, intercompany transactions, FX translation, and other required entries and/or adjustments. Perform detailed financial statements and general ledger analysis and reconciliations.
- Perform accounting for areas such as borrowings, Mortgage-Backed Security (MBS) and Canadian Mortgage Bonds (CMB), Investment, and derivatives accounting which may include validating financial information in investments and derivative databases and review of derivative contracts for the complete and accurate recording of investments and derivatives.
- Collaborate with project teams and IT Solutions on upgrading and/or implementing finance systems.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual financial statements and related notes by providing supporting working papers and analysis.
- Prepare accounting and tax information required for external auditors. Address inquiries from external auditors and provide any additional information requested.
You have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a recognized post-secondary institution (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an accountant role
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
- Proficiency in accounting applications (i.e. Sage) and Microsoft Excel
- Business acumen in the context of the financial or banking industry would be an asset
- Strong written and documentation skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.

The salary range for this role is $64,500 to $96,500 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
