POSITION SUMMARY
Working as part of the finance team, the Finance Officer assists the Director of Finance with day-to-day accounting tasks, the development, preparation, and submission of financial reports for the organization, and staff supervision.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with day-to-day accounting tasks such as payroll, A/R, A/P, and banking.
- Assist with the planning and development of comprehensive capital and operating budgets.
- Assist in preparing financial statements.
- Assist in overseeing the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, payroll and claims, account maintenance, and data entry, ensuring compliance.
- Adhere to federal and provincial regulations and GAAP – Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Assist in the implementation of new fiscal policies and training of staff as required.
- Assist in the supervision, leadership, and coordination of the finance department staff.
- Respond to inquiries as needed.
- Provide reports to the Director of Finance and/or Executive Director as required and assigned.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual audit process.
- Be aware of, administer, and comply with CAHRD HR policies and Collective Agreement provisions.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of all financial and employee files.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor's degree or CPA Program or an equivalent combination of Post-Secondary Education specializing in Accounting preferred.
- 2 year Business Degree with accounting major with progressive experience will be considered.
- 5 years’ experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial operations in a finance/accounting position.
- Records maintenance and database management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, automated financial systems, and Internet.
- Knowledge of business practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial financial regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of non-profit sector financial, accounting, and budgeting principles and procedures.
- Ability to execute and integrate complex financial analyses and prepare comprehensive capital/operating budget summaries and projections.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Proven ability to supervise staff.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous community of Winnipeg.
