Job description

Sheguiandah First Nation (SFN) is seeking a Finance Manager to fill a permanent position. The Finance Manager will be responsible for the efficient and effective oversight and coordination of the daily accounting activities of SFN and ensure all accounting operations are under applicable legislation, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.

DUTIES:

  1. Reconciliation of opening general ledger balances including accounts payable and accounts receivable
  2. Identification and adjustments to accounts receivable and accounts payable, including additions work to obtain a statement of accounts
  3. Reconciliation of ISC revenue including reallocation to correct programs
  4. Capital asset adjustments including identification and adjustments for capital additions, WIP transfer and amortization expense
  5. Adjustments made to the operating GL account and related bank reconciliation to remove cheques and deposits recorded in the incorrect period
  6. Adjustments to ISC, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Mnaamodzawin and other source of funding
  7. Adjustments made to Ottawa Trust Funds accounts
  8. Reallocation of revenue and expenses to appropriate programs
  9. Identification and reconciliation of transfer and administration charge-back accounts
  10. Adjustments to long-term debt for principal repayments
  11. Adjustments to prepaid expenses, loan receivables and investments
  12. Allocation of housing tenant rent to proper programs
  13. Identification and recognition of bad debts for tenant receivables
  14. Reconciliations and identification of deferred revenue
  15. Department and program discussions with management
  16. Other duties as may arise, or as requested by the Director of Operations or Chief and Council
  17. Reconciliation and accounting assistance for Ontario Works account

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business and/or industry course relevant to accounting or finance
  2. 2+ years experience in a financial manager role or financial experience in a full accounting cycle role within a First Nation organization
  3. CPA designation or working towards designation would be considered an asset
