Ubiik is the largest AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) vendor in Taiwan having won 4 consecutive AMI tenders from 2018 to 2022 to deploy 1.16Mn smart metering system for Taiwan Power Company. Its success is based upon Ubiik’s breakthrough Weightless LPWAN technologies and its vertical solution business models combining UEs, base station, core network, PaaS platform, and cloud application. Since 2019, Ubiik started developing its private LTE technologies and in Feb 2022 it has announced its goRAN LTE-M/NB-IoT Base Station aiming to serve the utility market around the world.
Founded in 2016, Ubiik focuses on the design and development of Weightless LPWAN communication technologies and IoT solutions. We are a leading provider of private LTE systems and equipment, specializing in the utility market. Our product lineup includes LTE base stations, EPC, and endpoints such as LTE routers. Since 2019, Ubiik has been the largest AMI vendor in Taiwan. Now, we are expanding our team in Vancouver and strengthening our presence in North America, with the goal of serving utility markets globally.
Finance Manager, North America (40 hours per week)
To support our business expansion in Canada, we are looking for a full-time Financial Manager to join our Vancouver office. This role will work closely with finance teams in Taiwan and New Zealand, focusing on:
· Ensuring accurate and efficient financial processes for our subsidiaries in Vancouver, BC, and Arizona, US.
· Supporting fundraising and corporate finance activities.
Reporting to the CFO in Taiwan, this position is primarily remote, with occasional travel to the office for meetings. The role is based in Vancouver.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Operations:
- Support the monthly closing process by preparing and verifying monthly sales reports using sales and cost data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with CA & US accounting standards and regulations.
- Allocate and post expenses to respective departments.
- Generate and compile financial statements required by international entities.
- Oversee the preparation of financial monthly reports and budgets.
- Provide detailed payment receipts for accounts receivable and ensure accurate posting.
- Prepare balance sheets for bank deposit accounts.
- Reconcile financial statements, bank accounts, and assist in year-end closing processes.
Payment and Banking Management:
- Prepare and maintain cash flow statements to facilitate effective financial planning.
- Verify payments received from various channels and monitor their status.
- Manage the end-to-end accounts receivable and accounts payable billing process, including banking operations.
- Process bank payments accurately and timely.
- Monitor and reconcile bank account balances, providing detailed information for proper posting.
- Execute foreign currency transactions and manage payment requests with banking institutions.
- Establish and maintain contact with banks for operational matters and negotiate favorable terms.
- Oversee the process of cash refunds to banks as required.
- Allocate funds among different banking entities as needed.
US Sales Tax related:
- Support the filing of US sales tax returns to ensure compliance with sales tax regulations and accurate financial transactions.
- Conduct regular research on sales tax laws in each state to ensure compliance accuracy.
- Support Ubiik Group’s US sales team with any tax-related inquiries on new purchases by reviewing each new client case to confirm accurate tax rates.
- Handle the payment of sales tax to state authorities.
- Offer expertise and training guidance on the filing process, including sales taxes, to Ubiik's Group Finance team.
- Provide support to Ubiik’s group related to sales tax accounts.
Fund Raising and Corporate Finance:
- Support any fund-raising and corporate finance (e.g. M&A) requirements including creating presentations, responding to due diligence questions, preparing financial forecasts, working with external parties, amongst other.
Other Duties:
- Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to aid decision-making processes.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors as needed to ensure successful audit processes.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest CA & US financial regulations and compliance requirements, ensuring adherence to relevant laws.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA designation in the U.S. or Canada will be considered a strong advantage.
- 5+ years of experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably with exposure to US finance practices.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, including SAP, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial regulations.
- Native fluency in both English and Mandarin.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and adapt to a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
