Field Technical Representative

Overview

The Field Technical Representative (FTR) is a field-based role for the Warranty / Technical Services team at Holcim Building Envelope division. The Holcim Building Envelope (HBE) division in Canada is based out of Mississauga, ON, and part of the larger Holcim Group. Technical Services is a vital and growing team; the FTR reports to the Technical Services and Training Manager for their respective area. The FTR is the face of the company who, among many things, will conduct in their day to day:

  • Training licensed roofing contractors in the proper application techniques for Elevate, GenFlex, and Gaco roofing products;

Performing technical inspections of commercial roofing applications for no-dollar-limit warranty coverage, performing warranty claim investigations, and providing on-site technical construction assistance to professional architects, designers, and installers.

This position covers the Quebec, Manitoba, and Maritimes Regions. The ideal candidate will preferably reside in the Montreal area and will service the region from this home-base. This is a fully remote position - candidates must live within the territory.

Responsibilities

  • Educating customers, sales representatives, and teammates on how to apply Elevate, GenFlex, and Gaco products per product specifications;
  • Reviewing technical installation deviations and making acceptance determinations within the authority level based on system performance requirements for a given project, system, warranty type/term, and construction site-specific conditions;
  • Providing feedback on company literature, specs, construction details, and assemblies to ensure the most accurate information is available for the customer;
  • Developing strong customer relationships and inspiring customer confidence;
  • Following corporate and division policies and applicable governmental safety regulations;
  • Working with internal and external customers to understand and document complex business needs and troubleshoot issues;
  • Defining and documenting a project, setting timelines, aligning resources, and executing to meet deadlines;
  • Investigating and troubleshooting roofing installation and product quality issues to determine root cause and appropriate resolution;
  • Effectively and proactively managing customer expectations throughout the investigation/troubleshooting process;
  • Prioritizing work.

Maintaining an understanding of current business initiatives and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

EDUCATION BASE REQUIREMENT (one required):

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Architecture; OR Minimum of 10 years’ construction experience in a Commercial Roofing Foreman or Superintendent role, or as a Technical Representative for a commercial roofing manufacturer.

Experience And Abilities

THE CANDIDATE MUST:

  • Have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds from their truck or the ground several times a day;
  • Have the ability to climb a ladder;
  • Be comfortable and safe while getting onto rooftops;
  • Travel overnight up to 40% of the time;
  • Possess a valid driver's license and operate a company vehicle safely.

Candidate should be able to unload the ladder from their truck, set up, secure, and safely move the ladder, and resecure it back to the vehicle.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS THAT CANDIDATES SHOULD POSSESS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:

Strong technical expertise in most of the following products and an aptitude to learn the rest:

  • Single-Ply Roofing Systems including: A) EPDM, B) TPO, C) PVC;
  • Metal Systems: G) Standing Seam Roofs, H) Cavity Wall Assemblies;
  • Roofing Coatings including: I) Silicone Roof Coatings, J) Acrylic Roof Coatings;
  • Urethane Systems including: K) P.U.F. Roofing, L) Wall Foam;

Bilingual – English and French

  • Must be personable and professional and maintain a high level of integrity;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to think outside the box;
  • Good organizational and time management skills are a must;
  • Must also be able to work flexible hours with minimum notification when necessary.

The strongest candidates will additionally have:

  • Prior Technical Representative Experience;
  • Claims Adjusting Experience;
  • Experience installing Roofing systems.
