Field Specialist - PTUS - Metrolinx, Ontario Line

Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Field Specialist – PTUS to join our Infrastructure team based in Toronto, ON. The Field Specialist will be part of the Delivery Partner integrated project team responsible for performing construction field engineering assignments of a varied nature for the Ontario Line Subway Project. The Field Specialist is responsible for executing and managing construction field engineering tasks, ensuring work meets safety, technical, and quality standards. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate with project teams. The Field Specialist may lead a team or specialize in a specific area of the project. Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Review project requirements and ensure tools, equipment, and materials are ready for field deployment.
2. Analyze technical drawings, scope, and specifications to ensure full project understanding.
3. Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and team members to align on goals and timelines.
4. Assist in planning methods and procedures and resolve technical issues with superintendents.
5. Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures.
6. Provide hands-on technical support, troubleshooting on-site issues, and ensuring equipment compliance with safety standards.
7. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime.
8. Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and technicians to ensure work meets specifications.
9. Supervise junior engineers or contractors, providing guidance and support.
10. Communicate with project managers and clients on progress and issue resolution.
11. Conduct quality checks to ensure compliance with technical standards and safety protocols.
12. Complete field reports documenting tasks, issues, and corrective actions.
13. Monitor material usage, labor hours, and equipment operation for accountability.
14. Address client concerns on-site and escalate when necessary.
15. Prepare reports summarizing activities and recommendations.
16. Collaborate with project teams to align on goals and timelines, providing input on technical challenges and solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field as well as a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or 6-9 years of relevant experience in the absence of a degree. Work experience as a field engineer or assistant superintendent. Previously held construction supervision role(s) with responsibility for construction of infrastructure of similar scope, size, and complexity to a station on a rail/transit project. Structural steel, civil, foundations, mechanical, and electrical project experiences are required, with station experience preferred. Strong communication and leadership skills.
