Description
Reporting to the Aitken Creek Area Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing daily operations support to meet maintenance demands and ensure the safe and reliable storage of gas in the underground facility. This role is integral to Western Canada’s natural gas transmission network.
Specific Accountabilities
- Operate existing equipment at the Aitken Creek Gas Storage Facility safely to meet all required daily demands.
- Support the area supervisor and operations coordinator in operating both field and plant equipment to ensure all nominations are delivered and execute all assigned daily operations tasks.
- Utilize field and plant operations experience and technical knowledge to solve work-related problems, collaborating with others as needed.
- Maintain a safe and healthy workplace to meet health, safety, and emergency requirements.
- Adhere to safe work procedures and practices, including Site Safe Work Planning; provide safety information and supplies, including personal protective equipment.
- Participate in incident investigations.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, builders, municipal agencies, emergency response, and environmental management personnel.
- Be accessible as a resource in emergency and operational upset situations.
- Support daily operations activities in the storage facility, including participating in daily safe work permitting, maintenance crew oversight, and troubleshooting of daily storage operations, which includes mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, and process troubleshooting.
- Assist the operations coordinator and project activities.
Scope/Dimensions
- Approved shift: 8 days on, 6 days off, 10 hours per day.
- Overtime applies for any time worked over 10 hours.
- Camp position with trips to town while on shift when approved by Supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and adherence to "Best Practices."
- Complete day-to-day tasks as directed by Coordinator and/or Supervisor.
- Log facility issues and either repair or report deficiencies in the CMMS system.
- Complete work orders as assigned in CMMS, including proper notes and documentation for work order closeout.
- Work permitting and Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
- Ensure all regulatory and environmental requirements are met.
- Initiate, execute, and complete MOC as required.
- Participate in "5 Why’s," "Why Tree," "What If’s," HAZID’s, and HAZOPs as required.
Contacts (Working Relationships)
- Collaborate daily with the operations and maintenance team to ensure the facility delivers nominated volumes.
- Work with safety specialists to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant maintenance operations.
- Work directly with the Area Supervisor and Shift Coordinators.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- 1-10 years of previous field and facility operations experience, OR
- Equivalent mix of formal education and experience (GPO/GFO, 5th Class Power Engineering, 4th Class Power Engineering).
- Trade experience (Electrical, Instrumentation, Millwright, Heavy Duty, or Gas Fitting) with Field and Facility Maintenance or Construction.
Preferred
- High School Diploma with a minimum of 1-10 years’ field/plant operating or field/facility maintenance experience.
