Position Summary

BCIT’s Digital Arts, Media and Design department is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.2 FTE) Faculty, Technical Arts (Flexible Learning). The Digital Arts, Media and Design department within the School of Business + Media offers a range of programs in the areas of Animation and Gaming, Web and Mobile, and Communication and Graphics. This role will teach courses to full time students in the Advanced Diploma in Technical Arts from April to June, 2025.

Duties & Responsibilities

We are seeking an individual who is highly qualified, enthusiastic, committed to quality and innovation in meeting our students’ needs, and who values the importance of teamwork in the workplace. Applicants with teaching experience and industry expertise in scripting with Python will be given preference.

This coursework explores advanced object-oriented programming techniques in Python, building on foundational skills in scripting and data structures. Students will write scripts and expressions to control node attributes in 3D applications and establish connections between nodes to influence each other. Courses also cover creating pre- and post-render scripts to automate time-consuming tasks. Additionally, students will develop tools that streamline and enhance the modeling, texturing, shading, rigging, animation, and rendering processes at various stages of the production pipeline.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to script in Python.
  2. Diploma or degree in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Minimum 5 years of experience in 3D production.
  4. Ability to prepare, deliver and administer relevant and applied course material, including effective coaching and assessment of students, in a manner that promotes learner motivation and successful acquisition of skills and knowledge.
  5. Excellent communication and interaction skills, both oral and written.
  6. Flexible, creative and enthusiastic presentation approach and ability to deliver interactive and experiential sessions.
  7. Demonstrated teamwork abilities in a collaborative working environment.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated industry success with extensive experience working in a 3D animation, gaming or VFX pipeline.
  2. Experience with Control Rig in Unreal Engine.

Salary Range: $81.30 to $121.96 per contact hour, inclusive of vacation and holiday pay. Additional Salary Information: Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
