Position Title: Facility Operations Manager
Reports to: Operations Manager
Department: Waste Services
Location: Yellowknife, NWT
Position Summary
As the Facility Operations Manager, you'll be the driving force behind the smooth and safe operation of our Yellowknife Hazardous Waste Transfer facilities. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll bring your expertise in TDG and your knack for leadership to the table. Your day-to-day will be a mix of ensuring everything runs like a well-oiled machine and leading a dedicated team with enthusiasm and precision. You'll be the go-to person for delegating tasks, fostering teamwork, and delivering outstanding customer service. Duties and Responsibilities
- Facility Operations & Project Oversight:
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints, ensuring smooth execution of work and exceptional client service.
- Oversee daily operations, including planning with the facility supervisor and managing KBL’s health and safety program.
- Partner with the Operations Manager to keep operations on track, discuss upcoming projects, and maintain open communication on all operational matters.
- Guide facility staff with training on standard operating procedures, health and safety protocols, and project management techniques.
- Ensure facility compliance with all regulatory requirements and permitted activities.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, and regulatory bodies to define project requirements and scope, ensuring clear and effective communication.
- Provide accurate quotes and estimates for facility and project work, aligning with company margin goals. Submit detailed project reports and financial summaries to management.
- Manage remote facility projects and coordinate transportation logistics for fieldwork in remote locations.
- Oversee the KBL Emergency Response program, ensuring readiness and effective management in critical situations.
- Take an active role in waste consolidation, yard organization, and optimizing waste receiving and shipping processes for enhanced efficiency.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to align projects with business unit goals and performance targets.
- Facility Compliance / Health & Safety
- Responsible for enforcing compliance with all Health & Safety requirements to always ensure worker safety, both at the facility and offsite work sites;
- Reporting all incidents to the Operations Manager
- Handling incident reporting, investigation, near miss, completing required documentation, and working with the HSE Coordinator to close the loop.
- Complete and submit government regulatory compliance licensing reports.
- Ensure HR program is being followed by facility.
- Ensure Safe Work Practices (SWP’s), follow Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s), reporting near misses and all incidents to Supervisor.
- Using visual aids to maintain tidiness of the facility and yard to ensure compliance.
- Implementing and managing KBLs Equipment Maintenance Program
- Finding and bidding on new environmental project opportunities by:
- Dealing with customers and vendors directly via phone, email, or in person
- Financial Accountability & Performance Tracking:
- Monthly financial accountabilities including but not limited to reviewing Facility P&L, managing subcontractors’ costs and being accountable to facility profitability.
- Manage the financial performance of facility projects, ensuring profitability and cost control for ongoing and new initiatives.
- Other Duties as Assigned.

Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 75 lbs. repeatedly.
Able to work outside in all weather conditions.
Working Environment
There is a possibility of cuts, bruises, straining, disease and /or severe injury if safe work practices are not followed.
Work is split between indoors and outdoors. Therefore, there can be exposure to extreme weather in the winter months. There can be exposure to dust, noise, mud, water, smoke, and bacteria.
Qualifications
- Ideally three years minimum in the waste management industry
- Experience in leading a team a definite asset.
- High level of initiative.
- Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions.
- Strong understanding of operation principles
- Excellent communication and ability to motivate and engage a team.
- Valid drivers license
- Computer skills – able to use MS Office (including Teams) data entry into Sage accounting.
- Strong logistical understanding of the Yukon
- Able to lead and facilitate work and employees in remote locations.
- Due to possible exposure immunizations are recommended.
- Strong Mechanical understanding.
- First Aid training – KBL will provide training.
- TDG training – KBL will provide training.
- WHIMIS certification – KBL will provide training.
- Class 3 drivers license would be an asset.
- Chemistry background or education would be an asset.
