Job Description
South Country Co-op is hiring a Facility Assistant at our Agro location in Barons, AB.
Reporting to the Agribusiness Manager, the Facility Assistant is responsible for delivering world-class customer service and developing diagnostic agronomy and inter-personal skills, while gaining insight into the sales, operational and administrative functions of the company. Duties include loading products, finding items for customers, receiving, and unloading inventory in the warehouse, answering telephones, practicing good housekeeping standards, and making deliveries. The Facility Assistant is an entry-level role and opens the door to future opportunities with the Co-op system.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid minimum Class 3Q or higher driver’s license and must provide a clean driving abstract and should possess knowledge of Agriculture products. Preference will be given to candidates who have post-secondary education or are working towards a diploma or degree in Agricultural programs. Knowledge of NH3 and Agro products and mechanical ability would be an asset.
- Agronomy competence attained through experience in the Agriculture business is preferred
- Ability to complete and successfully pass a pre-employment alcohol and substance test
- Ability to complete and successfully pass a pre-employment Driver Evaluation performed by a third-party company appointed by South Country Co-op Limited
- Must provide clean Drivers Abstract as part of the application process
- Minimum 2 years of relevant driving experience
- Ability to safely operate vehicle while delivering Anhydrous Ammonia and other Agro products to customers
- Physical ability to perform warehouse and yard functions, including the ability to lift and carry more than 55 lbs. on a regular (daily) basis
- Forklift and skid steer experience is an asset
- Required to have the ability to recognize and understand the unique properties and handling requirements of the load being hauled, as well as any special rules pertaining to the transport of the load.
- Required ability to move hazardous materials into and around non-industrial areas, such as delivering products to a residence, farm etc.
- Must have some computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Must demonstrate effective communication and strong customer service skills and the ability to work well within multi-generational teams.
- Ability to read maps and use GPS with a good sense of direction.

Availability: Days, Evenings, and weekends (during busy season).
